Sonus Faber Olympica I / Nait 5i
Posted by: Nl88 on 16 November 2016
Hi Guys
I am intending to purchase the Sonus Faber Olympica I bookshelf speakers.
Do you think that the Nait 5i would be able to drive those speakers well enough ?
The specs of the speakers are as follows:
- SENSITIVITY
87 dB SPL (2.83 V/1m). - NOMINAL IMPEDANCE
4 ohm. - SUGGESTED AMPLIFIER POWER OUTPUT
40W – 150W, without clipping
Thank you !
so 1k amplification with 7k speakers, i think it's too little for that speakers to really sing. go for less demanding speakers.
With that sort of speaker, a usual match would be something like a 282/250. The Nait will get noise out of them but it's not a sensible use of funds.
Counterpoint, price is not the proper metric for determining whether components match or not. Some people told me my 17k Sophias (which share the same 87 dB 4 ohm spec) were not a good match for my Nait 5i. They were wrong. I know because I demoed them, which is what I'd suggest you do and decide for yourself.
The best way to find out, is have a demo and ideally one in your listening room....if you like what you hear...you have your answer....plus you will have a natural upgrade path in the future.....

I know very well the Olympica I , world class speakers, I don't think you can get the best out of them with the Nait 5i.
look at Elac BS314, the best bookshelf I've heard, stellar value for money. I' m very sorry that Elac is not emphasized and appreciated in UK, you don't know what you're missing......

And LAMM LL2.1 Deluxe![]()
But look here, Sonus Faber Extrema (100.000, euro) sold here in Italy to those who can afford a Ferrari.
Will that modest amplifier to make them sing?

I'm currently upgrading step by step as I'm almost running out of funds. ![]()
I'll be using it for Home Theater & Music 50/50. I have ordered the Olympica I & Olympica Centre.
I'll also be going with a Denon X4300H AV Receiver. In the meantime, I have 2 options, just wondering which would be a better choice:
1) Drive the Olympica I & Center together with my surrounds with the X4300H
2) Pre-out from X4300H to Nait 5i in Unity Gain mode & Drive the Olympica I L&R
If the Nait 5i will not sound any different from the X4300H then I'll probably sell it first and wait awhile before getting a Poweramp.
Thanks !

So?
we use a 552/250 with olympica 1 and also have used my nait 2. the speaker is not the weak link neither are the amps.
great with naim and a rhythmical yet refined and mature sound. very large on an expressive midrange.
