Taken a flyer!!

Posted by: Kermit on 17 November 2016

A long story cut short, I've sold all my hi fi equipment over the past year and bought a Harley Davidson, yeah, I know, Mid Life Crisis here we come!! Having no means of music replay, I've been contemplating a Muso or similar to give non critical music playback. I guess I wanted a bit more than the Muso was able to offer, without breaking the bank. Well today I've taken a bit of a flyer on ordering a new Atom, to be paired with some small bookshelf speakers (poss Neat Motive 3) to form a sort of SuperMuso. If it's better than my lovely UnitiQute, then I'll be very pleased. Anybody heard one, and any thoughts?

Many thanks

Good on yer Kermit.

I haven't heard the Atom but would be interested in your views of it when it arrives as I am thinking of one as a second system.

Ah, I am so close to getting a Harley Davidson 883 next year and then people keep doing reviews of the 250dr with my kit.  Congrats on taking the jump and I hope you super muso works out.

Good effort, GREAT sound, with no upgrades needed.

There's a tradition amongst bikers of buying something big and powerful to assuage a mid life crisis, and then promptly 'taking a flyer' as you so succinctly put it! This forum's membership has already had one too many 2-wheeled mishaps of late, so I hope you don't suffer a similar misfortune. Enjoy your Atom!!

Harley Davidson = MLC

Nap 250 = NMLC

Good for you Dayjay, went for a Road King Classic!! Can't really take the Harley thing serious, but I know it puts a big smile on my face. much like a 250 would on yours!!!

Top tip, a Powerline will greatly improve the battery charging performance.

Is that an Ariel Atom? Will go nicely with the Harley

Now , I'm not a biker, but that's a thing of beauty right there!

All that chrome....and the oversized mud guards, white wall tyres etc. , it just oozes quality doesn't it.

Reminds me of the big old American cars from the 50's and 60's when they made the cars look big, bold and special.

Enjoy, looks fun!

Mine was not a mid life crisis,I bought a Harley Fat Boy in 1991 at age 26,and ended up selling it 8 years later for 3,000 dollars more than I paid, and it was brand new,,so just like Naim, they really hold their value.Nice bike...enjoy! I say get the atom too, myself I am interested in the core.

Now you're talking. (Couldn't pay me to ride a HD - just not my style)

I rode harley spoarster after a bmw 1200 gs

it was musu qualiyt after the statement

if you wanna coffe racer with good looks only thats fine but rides like a donkey with quality issues

bmw is all another level ,so sell the bike and get a nice stereo like i did after children, i might get a vespa someday

Posted on: 17 November 2016 by yeti42

The 883 is the entry level  so does the same job as a Muso, I feel you're rather flattering the BMW though.

Posted on: 18 November 2016 by Emre

1200gs even the 650 were all different level than harley, ride quality is all different level, and with harley i got many rusted parts after a year! So watchout if you dont have a garage!

Muso is a very good machine in its category, harley is not, good looks and engine sound thats all, and again add this add that 100euro this 300that! İt is a marketing money trap thats what it is! You dont have to add anything to bmws!

İ hate products that make you spend a fortune after you buy them!

They are developing a motor bike which looks rather special so you wouldn't have to ride a HD ?

Well my Harley never rusted at all,I kept it in a garage and rode like a dream, women loved going for rides on it,never broke down once or leaked oil...sounds like you had a lemon.

Kermit, I have heard the Atom driving some $8000 totem forest speakers and it sounded brilliant. It will be a huge amount better than the mu-so and you will never look back. So you can have your Harley and eat it too! So to speak

You certainly can...

I spent thirty years riding superbikes, my last was an R1, and although I am keen to get back to my roots I don't want to wonder too far from the cafe style racers of my youth which is why I like the styling of the 883.  My big worry is that I will get bored and drift back into sports bikes because I'm too old and can't afford to keep changing the damned things.

No offence Dayjay, but over here in Canada the sportster is considered a girl's bike,in fact when i had my Fatboy,i dated a girl who rode an 883 sportster...she looked damn fine on it,but they are not really an old mans ride, lol. My thoughts are, just like with Naim, you will only want to upgrade as soon as you get it.

Just in case you haven't seen it Dayjay , check out the new Harley Roadster . Its absolutely gorgeous, mixes the cafe racer style with modern suspension, performance  and brakes . There's a great TV commercial for it too ! I've never really been a Harley fan but the Roadster has really caught my eye . If that is your style also check out the new Ducati Scrambler which is a 800 V twin , very reasonable ( for a duke ) and really cool .

Thanks for positive comments on bike, didn't realise it was going to turn into a Harley thread. I totally get all he negative comments, I'd spent the last 20 years mocking them, which I why I don't take it too seriously now!!! Compared to many others, yes they are a bit of a dinosaur, but I kind of get the attraction now. Regarding the positive BMW comments, I help out part time in a BMW motorcycle dealer, your bubble would be well and truly burst if you saw some of the issues. I was the same as you dayjay, had one sports bike after another, don't be persuaded against an 883, nice bike.

Thanks for feedback regarding Atom (unfortunately the car is out of my budget)  anybody else heard it? Guess I'll just have wait, been told they are not due until after Christmas.

Thanks
