Unitiserve problem

Posted by: CDI on 17 November 2016

I have had many trouble free years with my unitiserve HDD 2GB but it is now not allowing me to turn off using the Naim logo on the front and I can't access it with NDS or via the nail app

I turn off with the switch at the back and it is ok for a few hours then it disappears from view on the NDS / app  and can't be turned off using the front illuminated logo

Any help appreciated - it's embarrassing to have my Hifi not working with all the youngsters having to use Spotify instead - ughhh

If the usual press and hold the Naim logo for 5 seconds isn't working, I suspect the switch is faulty and will need to be fixed by Naim or a dealer. Do you have a backup NAS? If so you could put Minim or Asset on it to tide you over while you get it sorted out.

Thanks - I have an asset nas that already has asset obviously that I haven't been using for audio since I got the unitiserve - was a pain having to rip on DB Poweramp on my old laptop

Guess I will have to fire it up again while I get the unitiserve sorted - first piece of maim kit to fail on me in 20 years -  how annoying!!

As to your US - by the looks of it a faulty logo button - classic symptoms.

Just copy all your Stores and Downloads to a NAS before it goes to service. And it has to go back to the mothership. Once you have files on a NAS just install a MinimServer. If you have WAV format rips, the only way you will be able to use them is under a 'folder view'.

If you have them as FLAC it will be easier - FLACs have all the metadata, so usual sorting will work.

It may work for a while now. use this time to run a backup / copy files to a NAS.

As Adam says above, while your US is behaving itself, now might be a good time to make sure it is all backed up properly and, in case you want to use the CD rips elsewhere, to make sure that they are stored in FLAC, not WAV.

I agree that it's a good time to sort out the backups.

But I have once had a situation where the US wouldn't turn off from the logo switch. After a few days of worrying about it, I turned it off with the back switch, then restarted it and immediately checked if it would shut down normally by pressing the logo. It did work normally and has been ok since. So apart from being a possible switch fault, I think it may also be that there was a computer malfunction of the sort you occasionally see on a PC or smartphone.  The question of why it happened is another matter.
