Streaming from 2 folders on same NAS?

Hi, I would like 2 folders on my Western Digital NAS so one can be for albums and one for singles. This will stop my main music being full of singles which i listen to less. I have tried creating a second folder next to the original but my unitiqute doesn't recognise it. It picks the music up and puts it all in the same music folder. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

On your WD web settings for UPNP you need to add the new folder. Paul

By all means create a new share but you need to ensure your nas can broadcast the shares via upnp in traditional folder structures, otherwiseit will be the tags in the music files that are referenced.

Why not put the folders INSIDE the WDs 'Music' folder then use a 'media server' software such as Asset on your PC which can deal witht multiple folders and allow you to see the contents of the folder you want to access (i.e. LPs or singles) via your 'remote control', for example an i-pod touch, running something like PlugPlayer or Songbook.
I use this approach in spades. I have separate folders for each music genre and inside them separate folders for each artist to list all the ripped output on an individual basis. Really comes into its own with Classical where it is sometimes best to file by Composer and sometimes by Artist.

Geoff, unless i have misunderstood your post you have rendered the whole point of a nas moot.

I guess you misunderstood. Maybe you would care to explain your reasoning

A nas in this context is surely to enable you to turn the pc off, in your configuration you may as well save hundreds of pounds and get a usb harddrive.

Correct if you can get Media server software running on your NAS. I can and in fact use a version of Asset sitting on my NAS so the PC is not involved in my case.
However I was not sure if the WD NAS has a working Media server on it. If not then a PC is needed to run the media server software. Since a NAS typically has a lot more storage and probably RAID capability, even if the media server has to be on the PC it is better than a USB attached drive surely.

It is most likely that the UPnP server in your WD NAS will amalgamate the music files that it finds in all of the folders it is set up to in which case separating the albums and CDs into separate shares won't help at all.
Cheers
