More and more I find self in this Forum or reading a music related magazine? I wonder what other people do? or maybe just dont do Anything?
Quite frequently, railway modelling ...

Most of the time listening music is "a full time job" for me. At the most I'm at this forum, reading something related with what I'm listening or the lyrics.
I have music of some sort playing for most of the day (assuming I'm in the house) so its background & although I do listen if something grabs my attention, it's not really listening. Evening listening, usually from NAS, but can also be a quality radio broadcast over FM or iRadio. In these times I do listen & tend to become engrossed in it. However I have been known to pick up a laptop, but normally for something specific, lookup, research etc. & it gets put down once thats done. Outside of that I will own up to a few glasses of something & some savoury nibbles.
Fall asleep...
Honestly, if I get the chance to just sit and listen, it can be Radio 3 or Rammstein, I end up sleeping.
Another for listening ,drinking tea and then ending up asleep....
Serious listening I move to the Stressless recliner and listen to the music, otherwise it's background whilst sitting at the iMac.
I can't do anything else while listening to music: Either I stop everything else and actively listen to the music or I have to actively shut it out of my consciousness. If there's music playing and I don't actively shut it out, I end up actively listening instead.
Except jazz; then I either have to turn it off, change to something else or leave the room, far enough away so I can no longer hear it!
I pretty much just listen. Recently stopped bringing my iPad into the listening room as this was distracting me from enjoying the music, although even then sometimes the music just pulled me in and the iPad went to sleep. Ideal is lights out and become totally absorbed in the music I have playing. Like others though I do suffer more and more from the risk of nodding off especially when streaming - less so when using vinyl, as getting up to change the record splits the session quite nicely, and the thought of the wear to the Lyra Etna is extra motivation to stay awake!
Immersive listening, I tend to no nothing else, but listen into the music instead... often shut my eyes.
Casual listening, I read, sometimes watch news/current affairs programmes with subtitles, catch up on a bit of late work, or even come on this and other fora .... and I can drift between active immersive listening and casual listening...
I can not usually listen to music and talk to people/family... it's one or the other.. if I'm talking to people I will filter out any music that may be there almost completely.
In the lounge I just listen.
In the office I start listening but tend to either pause it or blank it out when I'm working because my attention is focused elsewhere.
The only time I successfully multitask with music is in the car, where having the radio or music playing is part of the enjoyment of driving, unless I want to listen to the engine. I still frequently blank it out when my attention requires it.
For me there are different modes of listening...
Concert - full immersion, eyes sometimes closed
Intensive listening - full immersion
Normal listening - reading something, or doing some light iPad activities
Workout - focused listening, to background listening while my brain focuses on something else
At work - putting myself in a flow mood and fully concentrated on enjoying the music while being highly productive...
İ like to şisten focus with closed eyes but i pass out after 30 minutes even with ac/dc at 40 level
i am getting old, an interface like roon would be nice, at least reding abot what i am listening, lyrics, libretto, comments on performance etc
i never used roon but i imagine something like this
I often listen to (background) music whilst I am doing other things.
But when it comes to listening to music, That's what I do, I listen to the music. Sometimes eyes shut. But I often listen to music off a DVD, in which case it's an Audio/Visual experience, and nothing else is involved. No distractions, if you like.
It's kinda personal...
It depends what type of music is playing. (Dancing, Air Guitar, Full concentration, preping food, cooking and other things.)
Depends, sometimes it's background music, sometimes I just listen and drift off to sleep after an hour or so and sometimes, if we've got Enigma on, you can mind your own business!
Most "quality " listening is done solitary ("good " listening is with other half ) So probably those things that I have become used to doing in a solitary situation/environment. - such as bogey picking and eating, toenail picking and eating, eating too many crisps. Looking too long at an IPad screen. Dropping crumbs down the side of the sofa. Leaving sweaty marks on the wooden floor from bare feet when it gets exciting. Cramp from overdoing the foot tap
Mostly I sit and listen. I like to pay attention to music, although like others I have been known to nod off, even with the volume at pretty high level.
Sometimes I play guitar along with the system.
And when I shower, I turn on my bedroom system relatively loud so I can listen while I bathe - a good way to run through new purchases. This guarantees at least a few minutes listening on even the most hectic of days.
Like Huge and others, I cannot concentrate on stuff while listening to music (at least not stuff that requires thought) - there are those who have headphones on at work, but I would get no work done because I would be paying attention to the music and not the task at hand...especially inasmuch as I love music and I hate my job.
The exceptions to that are driving (music can make it bearable) and lifting weights/working out (where it serves as background and in some cases can be a motivational force.)
Cooking. Nothing beats spending a few hours relaxing and messing about in the kitchen whilst something's on in the background.
I have always found knitting very relaxing and soothing whilst listening to some of my favourite music.
