ERR message on CD3.5

Posted by: hifindergeneral on 24 November 2016

Hi all,

Just picked up a 3.5 that was working perfectly prior to shipping (all transit bolts in place)

It;s not reading discs since it was shipped, the player looks like new & the guy has an excellent reputation, certainly no problem there. If i place in a disc (clamped) it is silent, there is no scanning of the disc, if i press play, ERR shows, it's dead.

Is there something that may have moved, during a jolt for example, something i could fix, easily (i'm no techie) before posting it back

Cheers

When you close the drawer does it try to spin up or does nothing happen?

If nothing then the tiny little magnet that signals to the player that the drawer is closed may have come dislodged from a bad jolt in transit. If you have a small magnet you can test it out - if it gets the player to spin up then you've found the problem.  Your Naim dealer would be able to fix it.

Thanks for the quick reply,

Nothing happening, would it be possible to relocate the magnet myself (if this is the problem), have no idea where this is.

I can't think of anything i have with a magnet attached, also, where would i place the magnet to test this out, if i could locate one.

Cheers.

IIRC it's located just by the edge of the door opening.  I might suggest you have a word with Naim's service dept. who may well be able to guide you more accurately here.

'err' sounds like a pause for thought. It's true, the 3.5 is sentient!
