Amplifier servicing

Posted by: al9315 on 26 November 2016

I suppose I was a little sceptical that servicing power amps, whilst necessary, would not provide any audible difference ?

Boy ! - Was I wrong !

Just got my 2 x NAP 135s back from servicing on Friday - even from nearly cold, very pleased indeed.

Now Saturday - just had a nice session this afternoon, everything which niggled a little has improved. Bass bloom reduced, note edges sharper, tenor saxophone sounded really good ! I am quite thrilled really and glad I made the effort to get the boxes down from the loft, pack it all etc.

Anyone who is thinking "Is it worth it?" -

Don't delay - do it today !!!

Question is now - is it worth doing NAC82 ?

even better than having 2x135 serviced is to have 6 done, and set up as a 6pack

That's excellent news, I suspect you preferred my 250dr which was unexpected, no doubt the 135's now serviced overtake the 250dr?

No I don't think it overtakes your system Richard, it really did sound great !

I begin to (do not wish to !) think that the Fraim is worth having, but not sure if I could face parting with the amount of money required !??

Enjoying the music at the moment though ! - The main thing?

Not sure about the 82 but it's most definitely worth doing its power supply if it's ten years or more since it was last done.

Thanks HH - do you mean the Supercap or the NAPsc ?

If you mean the Supercap, I replaced my 2 x Hi-Cpas with a serviced Supercap, that was a good leap too !!

Sorry Al, I forgot that. I'd forget the 82, and put the money towards that 52 that you know you want.

Sure - but VERY reluctant to consider paying £2k for 25yr old electronics - maybe just me ?

I think at the moment I had better clear my head and get back to Stacey Kent, who is waiting for me in the lounge !!! (along with a selection of other ladies)

Clever lady Stacey, she seems to be in two places at once.

A 52 maybe up to 25 years old but it still plays superbly. Get a newer version by all means but it don't match the other Olive kit.

Is Melody Gardot waiting in your lounge as well?

She is as a matter of fact ! Not sure if I can cope with more than one or two in a day !?

The trouble with Stacey is that she always brings her flippin husband round as well, Melody may be a better choice.
