Who Has Stopped?

Posted by: GraemeH on 26 November 2016

The 'What do you want for Christmas?' thread caused me to reflect... that I don't want/need any new hi-fi. I have genuinely stopped.

NDX/Hugo TT/250DR/S400 is as good as I've ever heard and I shudder to think of the cost for what are comparatively tiny incremental improvements (based on the full monty 500 series I've heard at various times).

Anyone else convinced they are on the last rung of the ladder?

I would have stopped, but my CD player is starting to skip, and, as spares are no longer available for a repair, ........

Which player?

Chris

Naim CDS II

I thought they were fixable at the factory, my CDS3 certainly was and is awesome.

When my CD player started to misbehave, I contacted AV Options and Chris West told me that the transports were no longer available and, therefore, there were a limited number of things he could do try to prolong the life of the 1205 mechanism in the player. Just to find out whether the player could be serviced would cost me the AV Options minimum service charge, plus shipping and insurance ($150 + $220 at the time). I decided not to risk the money.

I had definitely stopped (for around 5 years!) but I've just started again!! And it's probably going to take 2 or 3 his to sooth the cravings!

My wife tells me this too. She hasn't lashed out yet...but then I've stopped!

Yeah, I probably should have proof read that more carefully - then again both readings are pretty accurate! Yes dear, it's just this one item, the old one's about to fail, I'm not on the upgrade thing honest........

Just about there. Just a DR for the NAP and as I have ripped all my CDs, probably an NDS to replace the cds3 at some point. No rush as I really enjoy the CD player. Taken ages but happy right now.

I`m in "rundown mode", heading towards a stop.

My suggestion would be, talk to other people than hi-fi people and challenge your hi-fi plans towards them. Then listen to what they say, but most importantly, to what they don`t say  Strange....

I know a guy who has rently acquired a Rega Apollo CDP, NAD amp and Mordeaunt Short speakers all used.   He says his music has never sounded so good.    Us lot just never really appreciate how good it really is

I just had to advise a friend who wants to buy a turntable amp & speakers as a surprise for her Husband's christmas - £400-500 budget. At first I thought 'no chance'...but, to my surprise, quite a decent Project/Marantz/Wharfedale system can be had for under budget.

I'm keen to hear how it sounds.
