DBLs first impressions
Posted by: lyndon on 27 November 2016
had these sitting here in silence for a month now while the 362 was being tweaked
let them loose for the first time last night, initial thoughts, they're big, whichever angle I look at them it still comes out big, although big they are certainly not intrusive into the room ( got mine 3 1/2 inches away from the back wall)
very glad to keep that big room filling sound I'm used to from the briks
what I wasn't used to was the openness from the mid and treble (always felt I was missing something here from the briks)
also drums really do sound like drums, don't think I've heard another speaker do this
there is a lot to like and I feel a lot to look forward too as everything has been off for a month, the pain has been worthwhile and there was plenty of that, their not the easiest speakers to move about; bookshelf speakers they are not !

Congrats on getting Dibbles up and running, hope you're enjoying the music : )
If you don't mind me asking, how much have they cost?

Hi Naim Nymph
got them from a chap who's regularly on here and the fishy place
£3650, plus the DBL lifters and a spare ATC bass driver
theres no grilles as the original owner had them removed along with the Velcro
theres a mans soundstage included in that
i decided to replace the tweeters which was about £130 including the blue gunk
362 change over was £370 including all the postage

Going by the expenditure it's darn good value with more music for the money,
a jolly good bang for the buck, and more giggles to the decibel : D

Hello Jon
6 135's
along with a 52/52ps
Posted on: 27 November 2016 by jon h
good move - same as me - have you had your 6x135 serviced at factory as a matched 6pack? Also do you have pots8 and latest service on the 52/52ps?
Posted on: 28 November 2016 by lyndon
All serviced in April- 10 boxes in total
52 has the pots 8
Posted on: 28 November 2016 by jon h
good move -- and keep the 52ps, its better than a supercap (has twice as much capacitors) (but not as good as a supercapDR). I;m not sure the 52->supercap upgrade is available anymore anyway.
supercapdr is well worth putting onto 362 tho in my experience. And stick to naca5

Supercap drs for 362 & superline are probably next
been doing nicely with chord epic for the last 10 years

Hello Andy
yes, they are really starting to sing nicely now, a little play with the snaxo pots has worked a treat, not sure why Naim mark the pots and then leave them set else where and different levels for both mids
i had to re-seal the gaskets, probably wishful thinking for the mastic to hold those bass units, the gaskets were fine though, just a re-seal

Hi Lyndon
im glad the speakers are singing for you, once it's all settled in and you set the pots up
you will really appreciate how wonderful DBLS are.
Thats good that the gaskets were still fine
it would be nice to come and have a listen at some point as I really miss the beasts
i have.a buyer for my TMS2 now and have sold the 82/135s
I'm now listening to the Thorens TD150 Toshiba SA7100 & Quad ESL57s
all the best

Hi Lyndon
Thats very nice of you for the warm welcome I'll look forward to it thank you
The dibbles love a work out and you have the amplification to do them justice
The Esl's are completely different very nice and an intimate listen but boy do I miss the the massive scale and attack of the DBLS
Have a great holiday a merry Christmas & a happy new year
Andy
