Hugo died

My beloved Chord Hugo died after only about two years.  I think the batteries are shot.  Anybody here have experience with the repair process with this company?

Sorry to hear that, I know how it feels! My Mojo died in less than a year, luckily it was still under warranty so Chord distributor in Canada replaced it with a new one. Chord has very good customer service so I am sure it will be straight forward once you contact your dealer or retailer.

I have once in the forum read, that it's quick and painless. Of course you can also use this opportunity to switch to the "real" religion :-)

Yes painless, I had a three year warranty with mine, Chord repaired it free of charge,  it took about two weeks. I think it's a known issue with earlier Hugos

Mine suffered the same fate but was remedied in much the same manner as Simon-in-Suffolk describes above.

Here likewise, repair free of charge via official dealer.

afterwards as good as new.

Well, this certainly hints at some quality-related deficiencies at Chrod if most of the forum's Hugo owners report such issues. I will see what mine would be like - a TT, when it arrives in December.

Wonder how many more times we'll here this over the next couple of years?

Well no more battery powered Dacs for me anymore. If I were to buy a Chord dac now, the 2qute is the sweet spot for a HiFi system.

Realistically how long do batterys in general last for.

My job spent 40k on replacing UPS batterys as the environment wasn't right ie: no a/c.

The engineer said heat as well as cold kills batterys and the ideal temperature is inbetween 19/22 degrees, the life of the battery can half if the ambient temperature is not right.

So how long is the chord batterys designed to last.

No big deal really, mine died a couple of months ago and was fixed under warranty in just over two weeks.  Sounds fantastic again now and not something I will be worrying about given the quality I get from it.  Mine was two months short of three years old.

...but it doesn't sound as good as the battery powered options ime.

My issue wasn't with the battery, but the internal device powersupply electronics which is rather advanced in the Hugo

Posted on: 28 November 2016 by hungryhalibut

Ah, but not sufficiently advanced so as not to conk out.

Can't argue with that

Maybe it's time to start the Dead Hugo Society?

Or a resurrected Hugo society

Hugo gets its Mojo back.

I'm off to watch Dave...

The Hugo might be marginally better than my 2qute but prior to my purchase of a Chord Dac, the likelihood of a battery failure of either the Hugo or Mojo made me decide to go for the 2qute.

Absolutely no complaints so far. Solid as a rock.
