Display Panel on UQ2 has dimmed out

Posted by: Khp on 27 November 2016

Hi All,

This is my first post here. I've been a Naim fan for some years dating back since the days of the Olive series. I got myself a UQ2 + Nap100 some 2+ years ago and i have been enjoying it since.

Recently the display panel on my UQ2 has dimmed out to a level that is barely visible in normal lighting condition, only visible in darkness when the room light is switch off. Have any of UQ2 owners here experienced this? My thoughts are for the display panel to dim out of fade in 2+ years is kinda premature.

I called the Naim distributor here and they quoted me S$350 to get the display fixed which is 1/6 the value of the UQ2. Is the amount quoted fair? Appreciate your input or comments. Thank you all !

Regards,

Matt

This is a common issue, especially if you have had the display on all the time, for example showing the time.

i think here in the UK, the Naim service dept wouldn't charge that much to replace the display on a two year old unit, but I'm sorry that I don't know the norm in the US.

Hi David,

Thank you and appreciate your reply. As for the display on my UQ2 it was set NOT to display the TIME but was set to go off after a couple of minutes OF USE. Comparing the display panel on my SHARP mini compo with an iPhone dock which is more than 5 years now. The display on my SHARP stereo is as bright as ever.

Regards & Best Wishes,

Matt

Hi Matt

in the UK Naim covers parts for 5 years normally. Not sure how that works outside the Uk but it could be worth your while phoning or emailing Naim support. They are normally very responsive and will have met this problem before for sure. The contact details are shown in the "sticky" part of the forum, ie above where your thread shows up. They don't normally read everything on the public forum so you need to contact them directly.

Hi David,

Thank you again. Appreciate it!! Over here in Singapore, Naim products are covered for only 2 years

I will take your advice to email Naim directly on this issue.

Best,

Matt

It works out at about £200 which does sound quite a lot to change something so simple, but with transport, labour and then the display itself, maybe not. I'd be pretty miffed having to spend that much after only two years.

Hi HungryHalibut,

as in my case it does not involve transport. I will be sending the unit to them personally. Yeah.....it is something so simple and having to spend SGD350 after only 2+ years kind of dampen my interest for the NEW UNITI to be launch pretty soon over here in SGP. Thanks n appreciate your reply !

Best Regards,

Matt
