Replacement for 272 to 250.2
Posted by: Jay on 29 November 2016
Hi all
I was thinking of trying out a few options for the stock lead between the 272 and 250.2. I'd be interested in what others are using and what differences they found.
Thanks
Jay
Well the Super Lumina is the obvious but at a cost. A compromise might be a Chord Sig Aray which I have between my CDP and 282 - superb wire.

Lindsay
The TQ range is worth looking at....the black diamond interconnect is superb....
Hi I used std sniac at first.... pretty good....then went to which hat.....that was better...... then went to SL this was better again more open - great vocals........ pound for pound the which hat was very good....SL the best....
The Witch Hat Hatpin is a worthwhile improvement. I would not spend more than that - put the money towards getting the 250 DR upgraded.
Agree with that ........ 250dr upgrade is really worthwhile.....
Argh - assumed it was DR - yes upgrade almost essential.
Thanks all.
Yes, It's the standard 250.2 and not the DR version. I would prefer to spend the money on that upgrade at some stage down the track so something like the witch hat option could be quite good as a short term experiment.

I also use the the Witch Hat Hatpin between SN2 and 250DR , its a very good cost effective upgrade to the stock cable . TQ cables are brilliant but I don't think they make a cable to suit ??
Witch Hat and DR upgrade probably cheaper than Super Lumina .
Witch hat happy customer here, the SL is way too Expensive! similar cost to 272!
Yes, it's doubly expensive if you need two, for a 300, though if you have a 250 you only need one of course. It's a terrific upgrade, but in this case doing the DR will bring a lot more.
The witch hat hatpins seem good value. What improvements do they bring? I'm using 2 standard cables with my SN/HCDR.
This is specifically about the din to XLR. I'd leave the Snaics well alone.
Understood.
I have done the Witch Hat DIN/XLR and 250DR upgrades (well an ex demo 250DR to replace my 250.2) and would concur with HH's suggestion that this will give you far more than a SL DIN/XLR at this stage. The Witch Hat was first then the 250DR but if I were you I would do the DR upgrade first as it is a revelation IMHO but of course costs more.
Any thoughts on a Chord Signature Tuned Array between NAC-N 272 and NAP 200? Would this make sense or better spend the money elsewhere in the system?
Poncy wires won't turn a sandwich into a banquet. Get the boxes sorted first.
Thankx HH, do you mean get a 250 DR first?
That's what I'd do. But hey, you might want to do something else.

I agree - cables don't make up for any equipment deficiency. Once you start tinkering with the special snowflake cables you start going into the realm of real hocus-pocus snaic oil Hi-Fi :-). The factory cable is fine, the Witch Hat & Tony Pardo cables are both very resasonable and high quality upgrades. Past that, get the DR. I just got a 250DR to upgrade my 200 and am very excited about it; I may do the Witch Hat cable as well, but cables provide marginal "improvements" or differences at best over already decent cables. I'm a huge fan of keeping it simple and fancy cables are just a quick way to part with your money with very little value gained.
I just today replaced the stock DIN/XLR in my 272/250DR system with the Flashback Sales Premier and was shocked. It was like getting the windows cleaned, inside and out. Much bigger soundstage and resolution. Really am shocked at the difference - I tried it just to see. Someone please tell me I'm wrong, I feel vulnerable kicking the stock Naim cord to the gutter.

I received contradictory comments on the comparison between the stock Naim and Flashback Sales Premiere cables when I asked this question last month. While there are few who thought the differences between the stock Naim and Flashback are marginal, there are some who thought the Flashbacks are a major improvement over the stock Naim. Apparently you fall in the latter group.
Did you try the other Flashback Premiere cables:-
1) One that connects the 272 to the Hicap, presuming you have Hicap.
2) One that connects the source to the 272.
I don't have a HiCap, that wouldn't work with the 272. I plan on getting a XPSDR as the next step. I run it on the network with a UnitiServe and use Cardas Neutral Reference between the LFD phono and 272. Honestly I knew nothing about Flashback but thought the prices for high end Naim and Chord cables so extreme that I dug around and found WitchHat, flashback, and Pardo. There's no question the soundstage and resolution improved and I was particularly surprised at the increase in bass attack. I'm in the U.S. and the shipping/service was first rate, too.
The HiCap won't work on 272, but am planning on an XPSDR in the future. It's the only Flashback cable I have in the system and knew nothing about them - just gave it a shot. I think it's a really big hole for Naim going from the basic cable all the way to SL stuff. I would also add that I'm in the U.S. and the shipping/service was fast, fast, fast.
Hımmm flashback is new to me and looks like good value vs. competition

Thanks for that. Since there are many reports on the massive improvement with the DIN to XLR cable upgrade, I will likely try the Flashback Sales Premiere cable sometime. This DIN-XLR upgrade is said to bring the most significant effect(over the stock Naim cables) when compared to other connections, say between the source and preamp or PSU and preamp.
