Returning....

Posted by: DaveBk on 01 December 2016

Evening all.... I have been largely absent from this fine place over the last year or so due to some domestic issues which led to my wife and I separating for a while, but I'm pleased to report that following a challenging time we are back together and stronger than ever. I have also returned home and finished migrating my system back into the dedicated listening room I constructed a couple of years back.

While away I treated myself to a pair of Focal Scala Utopia V2s, and moving these 85Kg beasts single handed was both a full-body workout and and engineering challenge, but they are unscathed and sounding fantastic my listening room. They are in roughly the same position as my old S600s, slightly further out from the rear wall and will my listening position also moved back. All the acoustic treatments are back in the room. They sound wonderfully neutral, and balanced with awesome bass without ever sounding flabby or boomy. Very happy!

Moving the electronics back onto dedicated balanced mains ( 10KVA Airlink transformer with a centre tap earth ) and fibre isolated network has lifted the performance immensely compared to the old rented place with a standard ring main and wifi network. Even happier!

So, the lights are off except a 'Naim Green' glow from an LED lamp, a Jo Malone candle is scenting the air, and I have a rather nice red wine in hand...

Passenger - All the little lights is first on the playlist, with many more to follow tonight.

ATB,

Dave.
