Qobuz Downloads

Posted by: Klout10 on 05 December 2016

I'm looking for a way to download music onto my NAS and am therefore reading a bit into that subject. A quick forum search showed me that - early 2015 - people were complaining about the Qobuz download speed and had several issues.

Hence my question: can you advise me were I'd buy my digital music? Furthermore: how do I download the files? I mean: can I save them directly onto my computer, or do I need to install a separate program (e.g. torrent client)? This last option would give me a problem, because currently, I'm using a workstation from my employer which does not allow me to install additional software...

Many thanks in advance for your replies...

I am using a linux desktop. Because the qobuz download manager does not exist for linux I simply download the music from the qobuz web site in the browser. You can either download each track separately or the whole album as one tar-file (only additional cover and booklet files must be downloaded separately; but the files are all listed in one list). This works fine, though the tar files always report an error in the last byte. But the extracted files are ok. Download speed is ok (up to nearly 6MByte/s which is my maximum connection with 50MBit DSL).

I like qobuz also because of the sublim-abo that I have. Many hires downloads are offered as a special price with this abo, often less than a normal CD price.

There are no longer download speed issues with Quobuz,  their downloader app works well, it helps if you speak French

I use http://www.findhdmusic.com/ to find who has music available as high res (def) (24-bit)       Qubuz have an excellent selection (library size).     HighResAudio are invariably better priced.    HDTracks have a good library,  but have lost the plot wrt pricing.   Loads of others that specialise in genre & other variables,   plus folks like Naim, Linn & others all offer high def digital.

No special computer programs are needed, the vendors small download manager apps help but are not compulsory.   I download to my PC or laptop, this goes to the computers default download folder or to wherever you choose to direct it to.   I then do whatever is needed (my OCD) with editing (folder names tied up) if no choice with available codec's then I convert WAV if needed & maybe if needed some metadata editing.  When its all looking good,  then I upload to my NAS.

I have never had problems with Qobuz or 7Digital

I don't use the Qobuz download manager but just download a .tar file. You can do it track by track if you prefer. the website is pretty easy to follow. Similarly with 7Digital.

All you then need is a to unzip the file to a folder on your NAS (or onto a memory stick and take it home!). You can download from Qobuz uncompressed if you don't have a WinZip or similar available.

Download speed is fine on both. Had one faulty download from 7Digital, they sorted it within 10 mins of sending an email.

It works fine nowadays. There were issues some time ago. But then the HDTracks downloader went on the fritz for a time as well. Don't think there is anything dodgy out there at the moment. Like Mike I download to my PC, check, clean up the tags, then push it out to NAS.

It would be nice if we could share the music from HDtracks or Qobuz; something like repurchasing.

Would be much more cheaper and a lot of fun.

prestoclassical.co.uk has a good download section as well with some very interesting prices on DG line!

never had a problem with Qobuz - as ever just need to check the meta data files - speed is not a problem now
