Nac 552 pre trouble

Posted by: StuSaff on 06 December 2016

good evening. I am in dire distress and need assistance

I have just installed nac 552 and ps, all connections are correct ( double checked) my problem is that the 552 pre doesn't illuminate, by this I mean if I touch any button on the front panel it briefly comes on then goes off?? I am totally perplexed. Can someone shed some light please. Thanks

Press pre then disp on the remote

That is what is supposed to do when 'disp' is off so try what Finkan suggests and you can toggle between disp on and disp off.

If only all problems were as easy to solve as that....

A while back the wisdom was to set 'disp' to have the lights off as this gave better sound.  I've tried it & can't tell the difference,  but I have them set for off as I prefer it that way.

I assumed the lights off idea was to preserve the health of the neon light, which can be prone to bleed?

Yes, a big thanks to all. I came over in a cold sweat I must admit, thinking oh god have I cross threaded the burndy, all is good now though, I have put the hammer away.

I don't hear a difference either. But that doesn't mean there can't be. Nice to have the option.

They are LED & will probably outlive us all.

Quite right,  LED, my mistake,  I'm sure I read on this forum it was best to have light off...

That was the laminated plastic of the logo, not the LED's. Also some of the CDP displays did the same. Naim had a bad batch, which they replaced FOC.

I know I suffered from them.

Thanks for the info, that explains it...

The logo doesn't get turned off even with disp off...

Cool feature, once understood, eh?  Press DISP a bit longer to dim the Naim DAC, if applicable.  It is supposed to improve sound quality, if very slightly; it quiets the visual clutter, undeniably.
