HEADLINE Connection to S.L SuperCap

Posted by: Amir y on 07 December 2016

Hi

As a very happy new owner of the NACS1 I found myself without ability to use mu headline.

Since I am using only one source -LP12 with S.L +S.C i thought I might connect the headline to the S.C outputs aside the burndy

There one's with source only and others with source+power.

Is it possiable ?

A supercap should only be used to power one item. You'd be best to get a Hicap or better for the Headline.

It's possible but i see two potential issues -

1 - The Supercap is only supposed to power one device at a time so running the SL and Headline may stress at least one of the power rails on the SC

2 - Change of loading on the output of the SL as it's driving the Headline and S1 input which could potentially cause a deterioration in SQ.

One way you could do it is to use a separate power supply for your Headline and then plug and unplug the Headline to Supercap (audio) cable when not using the Headline. If you find no deterioration with both plugged in then leave this cable in. Remember you'd also need the Headline cable modified to a 4 Pin DIN plug.

I'd speak to your dealer or Naim who would give you the best advice. Not a bad predicament to have though

I'd connect the headline direct to the preamp. I think the idea of connecting it to the supercap was a way of avoiding the need for an extra box.

I'd agree HH but apart from the outputs to the Power amps, the S1 pre doesn't seem to have any other outputs (like the other pre-amps) that the Headline could use....

How strange. Perhaps at £60,000 a tape out would have blown the budget.

No problem taking the line out from one of the Supercap outputs to the Headline.  You have three to choose from.  Only thing is your dealer will need to have the Headline DIN changed to a DIN4.  How will you be powering the Headline? - obviously it must not be from the same Supercap being used for the Superline.

Lol - i suspect the removal of internal switching and need for more output buffers drove that decision... perhaps Naim have a Statement Headline in the wings

Richard -  aren't you connecting the Headline and S1 pre from this Supercap (which is powering the Superline) so effectively the SL is driving two audio inputs ?

The FatHead, for those with fat wallets.

James, yes you are.  I would guess that the Supercap should be able to cope but otherwise just connect the Headine as and when needed.

Thank U all,

I have a HiCap DR to power the Headline , Hope that connecting 2 outputs from the S.C wont affect the S1 signal

I'll try that

Tks again
