Gender designation your user profile

Why is it there and is it important to anyone?

I know of one female member here that has selected the male designation. Perhaps because this forum and hi-fi in general are male dominated. Is a response from a woman taken with less credibility than one from a man?

Overall, women have better high frequency hearing and suffer less age-related hearing loss than men.

Maybe the gender designation should be eliminated from the profile or a third "undisclosed" choice be included.
