Hi I wonder if you could give me some advice on my next speaker upgrade plz my speakers are linn akurate 242 am running them with nap 300dr so I've got plenty of power ,to drive most speakers iam looking at buying second hand thanks aceone.
And the rest of the system is?
And the budget is?
And the room size is?
And the reason you want to change them is?
Morning. What's your budget? Are there any particular manufacturers you prefer? Floor or stand mounted?
Do you already have the stand upgrade on your linn akurates?
From my recent experience more important than budget, stand or floor mount or brand preference is room interface and system synergy. I've actually ended up spending less than I thought I might but the result is spectacular - to these ears!
But if you can give some idea of budget and room as well as the rest of the system we can give you some ideas.
Good luck.
Lindsay
Focal Sopra 3
Ovators S-400 / S-600 (they were developed using NAP 300)
Kudos Titans
ART
etc. etc.
We need more info on your room size and the budget.
Iam running a linn akurare ds nac 202,supercap,2 ,all with powerlines ,interconnect is tellurium ultra black, speaker cable is tellurium green ,my room is 15 foot by 14 foot ,my budget would be four grand plus my speakers to sell or trade in ,as for speaker choice b&w ,proac, focal, neat, dali .,aceone.
I think you need to change the nac 202 to nac 282 according to the tales on this forum.
Say you sell your speakers for £3k (just guessing) and add £4K, that's £7k, which is what the 242s cost originally. So the new speakers won't necessarily be better, just different. You really need to isolate why you want to change them.
That said, Naim electronics in the middle of a Linn source and speakers is a curious combination.
If it were me I'd look at the 202 before doing anything else. You could swap the 202 for a 282 and the Akurate for an NDX using less than your £4K, and then add £1k to your speaker sale proceeds and get something like the Kudos S20. Another way would be to swap the Akurate, 202 and Supercap for a 272/XPSDR (I'd be letting people down if I didn't at least suggest it).
With the electronics sorted out and some cheaper but more compatible speakers I suspect you will have a better and more enjoyable system than you'd get by simply adding expensive speakers to what you have.
Hi ardbeg10y does the speaker stand make that much difference.
I would also suggest Kudos S20
So would I![]()

I'm currently passively creating a list of speakers I'm going to audition next year. My wife has given me some 'room for improvement'. I checked out the speakers you have since they fit in my budget + they look quite cool in my opinion. My dealer told me that the cast-iron stands make a large difference and normally my dealer is right on that. Later on, I did check out these speakers on the internet and I found many prove for this.
Based on personal experiences I know that tuning / tweaking speakers can make a big difference indeed. Especially the room / speaker positioning. I have currently 'only' CM1's and honestly I doubt currently whether I should replace them since I have quite impressive improvements by playing with the Dac, positioning them differently, feeding different digital content etc ...
Given your speakers (and Nap 300 combination) I would really focus on the pre-amp and possibly source.
But, is there a reason why you want to move on? Don't you like the sonic signature of them? Do they have problems in bass / treble?
Hi Aceone,
The Strat gives very good advice when he says that getting the right speaker-room interaction is even more important than the price (as a surrogate for quality) of the speaker. Hence a brilliant speaker such as a Kudos S10, S20 or Proac D30R may excel or sound awful in your room and you won't know for sure until you try. At home.
As for other recommendations, HH offers good counsel, as usual. Your system is sufficiently revealing to be highlighting the performance bottleneck that is the 202. Replacing it with a 282 or a 52 head unit (+ Burndy cable) will bring about quite remarkable improvements for you.
Hope this helps, FT
I think I will look at a pre first and see if I can find speaker stands and how much they are
It's this what you need:
Hi thanks for that I will give my dealer a ring and see how much they are .

So would I (based on a dealer demo yesterday)
If you have a SuperCapped 202 into a 300, you desperately need to change the 202 to a 252. (Yes, I have run a 202/SC2 combo)
Then re-asses whether you need to change.
