System Pics 2017

Welcome to System Pics 2017. To get us started here is a picture of my setup: other than longer legs on the rack and some new wires, it's just the same as last year.

Maybe I was referrring to the Naim.....

It's my guitar, but the boy plays it.

Swapped my Credos for newer, nicer Allaes. There was plenty of suggestions that I should stick to the Credos but in the end I couldn't resist these  - a much nicer match to the room than the darker Credos.

Nice. IMO the Allaes are much better than the Credos. Do they sound as good as they look?

Michael, they do sound lovely too. I've not been too analytical in my comparison, but I think the instruments just sound a little more real (such as the decay on cymbals).

For those who posted instruments: thank you! Guitars on top currently. I'll post some of my instruments too in the coming weeks. Need to find time or presence - as being someone who frequently travels.

Perhaps not on the System Pics thread though. You could always start 'Show us your instrument'.

HH, no worries, there will be Naim or speakers on it. I try to Naimify all my rooms.

My new nice system ;-)

That is all the system anyone needs to enjoy music. Perfect!

I really like those Neats - they look great.

HH - Yamaha makes some great "budget" instruments - I feel they are better than most in their lower price ranges...real good VFM. And very nice fit and finish.

Oh come on Adam, some of those go up to 53!

53? Wow...  The heaviest low B I ever tried was 130 - nowadays it's back to my favourite hybrid set of 28-40-60-80-100-120

OK - so yours is bigger, and now everyone knows it!

Depending on the guitar, I am running from 09/12 up to 47/53. Of course the classicals don't even list the gauges in most cases, just going by tension.

Only recently found out (much to my surprise) that BB King used 08s and even 07s (!) on Lucille.

Bigger AND longer I use a standard 34" scale - never could really get used to the way frets were laid out on a 35" scale bass.

09 or 10 as I understand are fairly standard sets - although one of my guitarists swears he cannot play longer than 2 hours on a set of 10s. So he's in a constant battle with himself - between comfort and sound

My two main basses from a fine Polish luthier...

It's only cheap but it sounds pretty good nonetheless.

It's the way you play it that counts

Is that a MusicMan?

Looks like an ibanez to me. Possibly the JS Edition??

Well spotted!  It's a JS1000

Thought I recognised it. How does it play? I've just restrung my ibanez jem - always a chore but a great guitar.

For those members who would like to continue discussing guitars, could you perhaps start a new topic in the Padded Cell.  Thanks.

Surely the guitar is the source component

Poor picture quality - sorry - but we have a temporary chrome bumper addition doing power amp duties. I'm probably being lazy slotting it in were the 300 was rather than where the 300PS was

The 300 being DR'ed, Chris?

Posted on: 12 January 2017 by Chris Dolan

Yes - well DR and service  work scheduled to start on Monday apparently. I don't think they stopped production of any new lines to bring my DR slot forward

I'm sure you won't regret it, Chris. Be sure to post on your impressions when the Salisbury boffins have worked their magic and return your 300.

I've pimped the NAP110 with a Powerline

Posted on: 12 January 2017 by hungryhalibut

It's strange to think that when the 110 was current, you could buy two of them for the price of a Powerline today. The 110 was my first Naim power amp, and jolly good it was too.
