The owner is so damn cheap, that I hear he might upgrade speakers (if funds permit) rather than get the Naim Fraim; which I am sure will improve the SQ by leaps and bounds

A proper Fraim will be a better VFM than upgrading speakers. Source first!

Well done, you've finally found something you like. If it's domestically acceptable, it will sound better with the 272 on the top: it's further from the XPS and should get the Burndy off the floor. 

HH the sound improvement is very noticeable. I was sceptical about the benifit of a good rack and I'm now converted.

Rather than putting the 272 on the top, I spot an opportunity for an LP12!

CliveB that was the intention, to get a deck at some point!
