System Pics 2017

Welcome to System Pics 2017. To get us started here is a picture of my setup: other than longer legs on the rack and some new wires, it's just the same as last year.

It's strange to think that when the 110 was current, you could buy two of them for the price of a Powerline today. The 110 was my first Naim power amp, and jolly good it was too.

Conversely, half of the number of pounds a powerline costs today, when converted (i.e. allowing for inflation) from when the 110 was current, would buy you two powerlines today.

Strangely symmetrical.

Not too shabby of a system!

I believe it's an Anzus Mainz 8 Diamond power conditioner.

Not my business at all, but just out of curiosity, do you keep extra blankets and pillows on a Fraim in the living room?

C'mon Adam, it's tough enough with 4 strings mate. You must have hands the size of Belguim.

ps is there enough to start a new thread as Richard suggests?

It's not that bad

I will post on the new thread so let's move the discussion there...

$30k for an amp and then skimping with FraimLite

The Aavik looks like a lovechild between Darth Vader and a Dalek. Awesome

The owner is so damn cheap, that I hear he might upgrade speakers (if funds permit) rather than get the Naim Fraim; which I am sure will improve the SQ by leaps and bounds

A proper Fraim will be a better VFM than upgrading speakers. Source first!

Well done, you've finally found something you like. If it's domestically acceptable, it will sound better with the 272 on the top: it's further from the XPS and should get the Burndy off the floor.

Posted on: 14 January 2017 by Monkadill

HH the sound improvement is very noticeable. I was sceptical about the benifit of a good rack and I'm now converted.

Posted on: 14 January 2017 by Clive B

Rather than putting the 272 on the top, I spot an opportunity for an LP12!

Posted on: 14 January 2017 by Monkadill

CliveB that was the intention, to get a deck at some point!

I really like your take on rack positioning

It probably allows more room for a decent cable layout too.
