System Pics 2017

Welcome to System Pics 2017. To get us started here is a picture of my setup: other than longer legs on the rack and some new wires, it's just the same as last year.

OK guys, thanks for the help, sorted, although the colours seem to go from lilac (min) through red, then bright green, dark green and light blue. No time to fiddle any more today, I'll give it a proper listening to tomorrow.

Will be intrigued to hear your view on Hugo TT versus your memory of the smaller Hugo, or do you need that one back to check on the effects of output levels? That Hugo has lain unused for well over a year now, save for the period you borrowed it.

BooplinthNew arrival. Booplinth. Very happy with this despite the name. Makes a huge difference to the sound without making it sound like a different deck.

Now you need a Quadraspire SVT bamboo rack to put it on. The Linn will never sound its best on that oak table.

I know that. I don't have space in the current room however. It will all be going on Fraim eventually in the back room (if it ever gets finished)

I don't really understand this, why would swapping a solid looking oak table for a comparatively flimsy looking bamboo stand improve the sound?

Posted on: 11 February 2017 by hungryhalibut

Because the Linn usually works better on a light stand.

True, although the Trampolin base did decrease the placement sensitivity of the LP12. SVT is great but so far only Fraim has got the WAF seal of approval. Mainly I think because the wide legs help to hide the wires from a front on view.

Looks dreadful from the side though.

So do I

Very nice - some of the exotic plinths can look a bit strange but this looks rather nice and rather unique.

Hy James N,

did I missed it or are you still waiting for the Pro?

Hi Tom - I've had it back just over 3 weeks now. Devialet turned it around in 14 days including shipping and made the whole process very easy. It took a good 2 weeks to really get into its stride with a very Naim like up and down running in period. Now it's just sounding consistently good, well much more than good...

Now back onto the speakers...

I'm intrigued by your speakers - have you got a small (Tannoy ?) 2 way speaker sat on an SL2 lower box ??

I've lived with Fraim pretty much since it was first launched and would say that it doesn't look that great from the front either (IMHO). But I didn't buy it for its looks.

I'd like to hear a bake-off between the booplinth, a Tangerine Stiletto and a Woodsong wenge plinth (my current build). It would be great if  it could be a blind test unbiased by appearance too.

just in case (Red) Chris is reading this, be assured that it would be for research purposes only!

Clive - I've heard the Stiletto and it's a leap to my ears (surface noise/clarity/separation) - but the cost is more than material (£5k IIRC), which generates thoughts of trying SMEs etc given the cost of the overall Linn LP12 package.

Feedback from other Form members I've come across on some of the non-Linn plinths hasn't been universally positive.

I'd like to be there too

With extra FlatCap XS this year

Nice - are those Audiovector speakers ?

Thanks! Yes indeed. Ki3 Signature

And how do you find the speakers?

They are really nice open, with the FlatCap XS even more powerful, more detailed. I think audiovector and naim match each other perfectly. But now I would rather try Si3 Signature

sorry I'd lost this - whats the bass like?

many thanks

[@mention:31273966728598883] - yes - visually there is a huge difference . Soundwise I'm certain the improvement is very clear.
Enjoy!

Well, since I have a flatcap xs there is much more bass, I even didn't realize that they can produce so much bass and goes so "deep' with low frequencies. Before I have tried with arcam a28 and  was completely disappointed. With nait xs2 and flatcap xs they are completely different speakers. I thing those boxes deserve for a good amplification, slim cabinet but really nice sounding. It's also important to place them close to the back wall - Audiovector has own theory about that.
