System Pics 2017

Welcome to System Pics 2017. To get us started here is a picture of my setup: other than longer legs on the rack and some new wires, it's just the same as last year.

Intrigued by the perspex cover you have for your RP8 in "skeleton" mode. Is this a standard item from Rega or is it custom-made?
Hi Adrian,
i had it custom made.

At last I've figured out how to post pics!!!! It's only taken me 3 months to figure it out. That's probably the reason I haven't ventured into the world of streaming, (small steps)!!

Thanks.
It was a big extension project we finished at the end of last year. A local joiner made the TV unit to our specifications.

Thanks Allan
We designed the unit and had it built locally. The base unit TV wall panel and shelf are all one piece. There is a void behind the panel to hide the sockets and cables. It was cheaper than some of the ikea units!!! . We clad the base plinth in flooring planks to give it the appearance of a floating unit - kinda works.

I've long been curious what those sort of speakers sound like, Nick. They look great IMO. Any thoughts compared to more conventional boxes?
Ah Dave, they are magical. I posted at the time I bought them. I wanted complete transparency from my speakers and this is what I have.
When I auditioned them I was upgrading from Harbeth P3ESRs, which I loved for their BBC Radio 4 warmth. At audition I compared with Magnepan 1.7s (lovely midrange but not quite enough bass, although I'm far from being a bass-head); some floorstanding Magicos (possibly S3s, not bad but not as good as the Maggies or Martin Logans) and Harbeth 30.1s. To my surprise, after hearing the Martin Logans the Harbeths genuinely sounded "slow". I could only stand them for a couple of minutes. Strange.
So for me these speakers are pretty much perfect. I guess it depends what you want, and you'd need a power amp with enough control, but I would seriously recommend giving them an audition.
My Reference 1's have been running in for about 4 months now - nice clean sound matched by a clean look (I think). They are toe'd in slightly - the wide angled lens makes them look as they are toe'd out. Also a pic of my rack and 'mini rack'. I had the 'mini' made for me to house the Stageline, Headline, NAPSC and Xerxes controller.

very interesting, i have never seen naim amps with magnepan loudspeakers. I am curious on how it can sound.
My system is also atypical, i have an ear preamp( tube) with naim amp( eat 912 with nap 300dr).
i hope i will try your combination one day.

The speakers are Martin Logan Electromotion ESLs. (I adutitioned Magnepans but in the end preferred the Martin Logans.)
The combination sounds fantastic!

Thanks Erme
It's bigger than my living room also. I was hoping there would be some monies left after the build for a substantial upgrade but this may be a little more modest. Still it's a great space and well worth the effort, upheaval and spend.
