System Pics 2017
Posted by: hungryhalibut on 17 December 2016
Welcome to System Pics 2017. To get us started here is a picture of my setup: other than longer legs on the rack and some new wires, it's just the same as last year.

P., what is that small in-line box labelled, I think, 'Audiophilea' on the rear of what I assume is your pre-amp?
Clive B, this is the USB-S/PDIF-Converter connected directly to the nDac. Audiophilleo is the brand, the small box on the left is it´s battery power supply.

No socks??????
No nudes please!!

p. posted:For domestic reasons moved the system between the speakers - and astonishingly the bass is better than before, I assume that the positive impact on the room acoustics is stronger than the microphonie effects, at least at the low volume I usually listen to music.
Lucky enough the snakes wedding is well hidden from sight and the Burndy cable hangs free not touching anything.
Oooh! I like the look of that system.
Came across this photo of my old CDX/72/HC/250/SBL system. (And back when I still had vinyl - Music Hall MMF TT):
This was my house outside of Dallas...a house I really liked a lot.

Of the audio system gear, the only thing still in my possession is the crummy little Philips DVD player on the left side under the cassette deck - keep waiting for it to die but it refuses to succumb!
Also some guitars that are no longer around...the Rickey moved to Belgium last I knew.
That was a lovely room Drmark! How did the SBLs sound with the space and toe in? Looks unusual.

Funny you should mention it, because when I posted the photo I thought "My word, those are really toed in way more than I would think they should be."
This photo was from ca. 2005, so I am going off a memory from some time ago. I know the "sweet spot" (red chair) was about 8 feet from the system in a room that was 14' x 16', with about 5' behind to the back wall. I assume I was pointing them at the spot, and I am a big fan of sound stage and "imaging", so I am sure both those were in play.
This would have been shortly after I moved in, so I might have changed speaker position, because yes, it does look unusual.
Here's the same system in the little house I had (and finally was able to dump last year, thank God - I was an unwilling mortgage crisis landlord for 6 years) when I moved to NC for school - but talk about "near field" listening...a lot of stuff crammed into a fairly small space to be sure.
I always wanted to re-arrange the room the long way, but the door to the backyard, laziness, and being occupied with pharmacy school studies precluded it.

I had forgotten about my bassoon, which is now long gone; sold to help make it though school.
Another nice space Drmark. Love the unconventional position of the SBLs still. But if it works for you then great! Are the guitars behind the camera now?
Stu
They were - this is the space I lived in from 2007 to 2011...obviously it was far from an ideal listening room, but it was all I had.

Would that be Fawlty Towers University where you received your degree? I'm not a Doctor, but I'm pretty sure it should be through, not though school. ![]()

Great photos, congrats!
i'm curious if you are aware that your speaker cables are not connected to the left and right chanels of the amp accordingly to naim recommendation, the correct position it appears to be (looking from your listening position to your system), right speaker to ch 2 right and left speaker to ch 1 left.

I'm actually an excellent speller, but I am the worst typist you will ever meet; absolutely brutal - it seriously is a problem at times, and I wish I could find the time to learn how to do it properly. (Had to go back and correct 2 errors in this brief post.)
Fawlty Towers U would have been a hell of a lot cheaper! (And another error in that sentence I had to correct.)

are you sure look at the direction the drivers are pointing whether your staring at the front or rear of the amp the cable goes to the same speaker and I believe the diagram is ment as if your connecting from behind so my connections are correct
Maybe you are right, i'm still a novice but i stay with my opinion
you should ask someone else here or even a dealer to make sure that everything is correct
now you got me questioning myself you may be right can anyone here confirm?

I think you're right, unless the cables are crossing over out of sight under the shelf unit, it looks like L and R are reversed.
how you see it is how they are ran I honestly never paid attention because most brands are wired like that weird why naim is different
if I adjust my balance on my N272 and starring at my speakers the neg numbers go to the right and pos numbers go to the left
I always thought it was odd that the speaker cables have to cross each other at the back of the amp,I asked my dealer and he said that yes they should...the right side (looking at the back of the amp) should feed the right speaker when looking at your system from the front. It makes more sense when you use NAC A5 because the way the plugs go,you want the cable to feed down(using the supplied Naimplugs)
They are definitely reversed, maybe that's why you have been trying to sell the 300.
