System Pics 2017

Welcome to System Pics 2017. To get us started here is a picture of my setup: other than longer legs on the rack and some new wires, it's just the same as last year.

Nothing to write home about really but still plays music after all these years. All upgrades being concentrated on the LP12 recently. Source first all the time. Sorry for the poor pics quality but both the camera and photographer are useless. No comparison to yours whatsoever ...

Cheers,

Pedro

Hi Pedro,

Your LP 12 slotted black plinth seems a custom version, do you ? i konw it was normally availble in plain black ash or slotted wood veneers. (Mine was Afromosia)                                                                                             However for the ' 87 Milan Audio Fair, the Linn distributor Mr. Antonio Trebbi, carried along his personal black slotted Lp12 claiming that it was built like this especially for him.                                                                             For the record it was also  present a Nac 52 prototype with a mixture of CB and Olive aesthethics.

Regards

Roberto

Fantastic. Just needs a Nait 1 and a pair of Kans (black ash) on Mk1 stands for full 80's classic system

Posted on: 21 December 2016 by kota

@ Roberto, It's actually a corner braced 89's Greaves of Sheffield afro plinth I've just stained black for a change :- )

@ James, Probably right but the Nait 1 wouldn't cope with the Asaka I'm using now. A K5 or K9 would be ideal though and these Neats are simply magic with the 72/HiCap/180 ....

Oh nooooo! Two speakers....

A quick quesiton - is your Yamaha AV (at least it looks like Yamaha) connected to your NAC for front channels?

Nice rack although i don't like metal (ringing) as support for LP12.

Hi Adam,

Sorry about the second speaker; I confess to being very much last century!

My AV amp (a well-spotted Yamaha RX-V1900) is indeed connected to the 552 for AV front channel duties.  I have a pair of Wharfedale Diamond 9.1s and an nSub behind the listening sofa for the other 2.1 channels.  The sub is only used for AV duties; it seriously ruins the midrange openness of the main speakers if used with them for music and besides, the Vectors have no problem filling the room with excellent quality bass all by themselves!

Cheers,

Ian

Ian - thanks!

Looks like a long cable run from the Yamaha to NAC 552... What cable did you put in there?

I'm asking all those question because I feel I need to tidy up my living room setup (Yamaha Aventage 5000 with Naim for the front end). And this may result in longer cable runs...

Hi Adam,

I have a 3m Chord Cobra 2 from the AV amp to the 552 running through trunking attached to the skirting.  I bought my house new and always planned to have the lounge arranged the way it is, so installed the rear channel speaker cables in slots pre-cut in the underlay, much to the carpet fitter's amusement!

Due to the location of the sub and router, the cables for these have to run from the rear of the room to the front but they are easily hidden by laying them under the rug.

Cheers,

Ian

New addition for 2017 (the Rega). Have to say that it sounds bloody fantastic. Never had so much urge to just listen to entire albums or even come to that listen to albums I would never normally consider (due in part to a decent borrowed collection). Also had a good long play with speaker positioning just before the Rega arrived, much much to the positive. Brought the S400s from 18cm from the wall out to 35cm (which is as far as Im willing (ok, ok allowed!) to bring them out into the room. Massive increase in soundstage, which was already good, and also surprisingly bass quality and quantity.

Do the snake and killer whale bring anything to the party sound wise?

Very nice. Love the Dynavector 10x5. What support do you have your Rega on?

My humble offering - always feel inadequate on this thread, but I at least have a new piece in the system so my post has more "legitimacy"!

DRMARK,

My 1.5 are sitting on spikes that go through the rug and are anchored to the wooden floor. I tried granite slabs under the speakers but that cooled the thinned the sound too much for me.

Nah - nothing inadequate about that. Nice system in a nice room and i bet you get a lot of enjoyment from it.
