System Pics 2017

Welcome to System Pics 2017. To get us started here is a picture of my setup: other than longer legs on the rack and some new wires, it's just the same as last year.

Tony, just out of interest, how old is your house? My cousin lives in Essex and has just restored a house which has these wooden beams too. That house is over 500 years old. It feels like Henry VIII could enter suddenly.

No deviations allowed!!! To get things back on track, here's a photo of some HiFi....

What a lovely cat. We keep hoping that one will adopt us, but sadly none have. Have you thought of putting the NDX on top - it may sound better and the cat would have a warm place to sit.

Thanks Nigel, she came from the local cat rescue a couple of years ago, along with her brother. That's actually my old Superuniti, the new system is now in place (although the room refurb it still a work in progress.)

Very well, if I must -

That's not the FULL picture – go on Tony, show us the classic Rear 'Rat's Nest'....or, better still, the much earlier 'dust enhanced' version – still one of my all time favourite 'system pics' here...!!

P.S. Hi again Tony, hope you are well..? It's been a while....! 2009 Forum Factory Tour & BBQ or so....

Sorry SC, regrettably that picture's somehow gone missing.

So anyway...SC...can't place you at the moment. A better clue perhaps?

I never meant to offend pets , wives or pet owners

I observe that things unrelated to audio listening distract from the purpose of this thread and i look at this thread to look at music systems and get ideas and not for anything else.

I too did not like "smart" comments that are made and some of them could have been avoided too.

My response was only proportional - i believe.

Just as many folks disagree with my comments / observations.... i am sure many agree as well.

Weather they choose to express it or not is another thing.

Its time to let go.. and carry on..

We are all human beings and in that context i offer my apologies to all those who may have felt hurt about my comments on pets on this thread.

Good luck and have a nice week !

best regards

Mahesh

Well said. I have some sympathy, belonging as I do to that minority of Brits that doesn't 'do' or 'get' pets. I struggle sometimes to understand the obsessive behaviour of many pet owners, but accept it gives pleasure to many. Apologies for the deviation to thread!!

Hi Chris, yes, it's a floating oak floor. It rests on top of a thin membrane which is laid over the old floor of compressed flints and mud. There really isn't a sign of resonance from it, in fact the room is remarkably benign acoustically.

Hi Tony, I've seen some floating floors with quite a lot of 'bounce' in them, which might make me a bit reluctant to put one in a listening room, but I think that might be down to how well the floor has been laid, and how level the subfloor is.

"Level" isn't a word I'd associate with our floor! There are one or two areas with a bit of bounce, but it doesn't seem to cause any audible problems. The flints make it very solid I guess, but I imagine if you're laying such a floor over a suspended floor then that'd be a different story.

Tony – You mean to say you don't remember all our AV musings and yearning for a AV3...!? Admittedly, it's been a while, and I've since ended up 9000 miles away in Australia (where Naim, let alone the AV kit, is even more popular, not!).....

Haven't been on here in quite some time for various reasons re relocating, kit in storage etc etc.....Recently popped in to see just what was going on around streaming and in particular the Core which I intended to get.....But seems Naim are doing a classic Naim – it's almost like the AV days all over again!

P.S. I'm not sure if you knew, but weirdly I actually ended up with your AV2 unit via Alastair a few years back..! I should have just bought it from you...!

Anyway, back on track and the Pet images.....

Cheers, Steve

Ahhh! THAT Steve! Great to hear from you old bean. Have you still got the AV2? It served me well, and if it wasn't for the lack of HDMI I'd have probably still be running it.

Best wishes!

Chris - some advice if I may.

The technology is probably a bit different in Poland, but shouldn't be miles off - we also have a floating floor in our old flat. No other choice. Subfloor (essentially the ceiling of a flat below us) is anythign but flat and level.

Our carpernters solved it by laying down cross-beams and supporting them in various places as needed. The leveling was done with a laser guidance system. Mineral wool, with acoustic-damping properties was used to fill in the empty spaces (all cables went in trunkings under the beams). Two layers of special foil (one was a thin layer of foam, again for acoustic damping reasons) went over the beams, then OSB boards and finally parquet (oiled oak) was placed on top.

Cheers,

Adam

I'd be surprised if the floor under that amount of Naim kit had any bounce left in it...it's probably crushed the flint sub-floor

Ha! Good to see you still chugging away on here...Not all my favourite folk from back when I used to post often seem to still be here.....I was in touch privately with AllenB for a little while, though I believe he eventually dumped his marvellous Naim rig....

Yes, still have the AV2, though sadly/annoyingly it's akin to 'mint in box' along with much of my AV kit and some of the stereo gear too due to current space restrictions and possible plans to move – But, it will live to fight another day for sure..!

Take care, Steve

P.S. Are you going to Alastair's house warming event..? I'm currently in the UK and was potentially thinking to attend, check out the Core etc, but not 100% I can make it yet.....Besides, the Core isn't ready for sale yet. Could always go to get my deposit back in cash though....!

Not to get into the rest of your comments here ... but I think pets (and wives) are relevant in this thread.  I have always seen this thread as more "Pictures of our lifestyle which includes HiFi".  That means wider pictures of our rooms, those "companions" who share our lives and hifi and the alternatives we have to our Naim hifi are all welcome.

Anyway thats just my 2p.

As long as the picture has a hifi system or at least a single piece of hifi in it and it's not something likely to cause widespread offence, then pretty much anything goes, whether it also include pets, socked feet, friends and family, or room furnishings.

What is the position on Hillary Clinton's cat Socks?

Was she wearing cats as socks  or did she have socks for her cats or did she have socks with cat designs on them ...

This is important information as there are three possible - and very different  - reactions that I could have to this news.

and i thought this was a systems pic 2017 page..

maybe its better to start a Naim owners pets page as well.

Nah. The pets and other little insights (glass of beer/wine, funky socks, artwork, furniture, rugs, musical instruments, glimpse of a view out the window, etc) are what make the system pics interesting. If you just want pictures of hi-fi systems, perhaps look on manufacturers' websites.

Your 2p accords with my 2p. This thread is a social thing, not a technical resource. I guess we disagree with mpw as to the thread's purpose (or even if it has one). I don't find the thread of such intellectual complexity that I am "distracted" from any purpose the thread may have or not have by pictures of budgerigars.
