System Pics 2017

Welcome to System Pics 2017. To get us started here is a picture of my setup: other than longer legs on the rack and some new wires, it's just the same as last year.

Perhaps the SNAXO got too floaty.
Since my last post near the beginning of system pics 2017, I've since added a Hi cap DR, Chord 2Qute & Guru Juniors again
I already enjoyed Supernait immensely, Hi cap DR has taken that to another level.

Lovely looking setup, but I'd be tempted to swap the places of the Hi Cap and phono stage (?) so you don't have a large transformer directly above the more sensitive components on the left side of the Supernait.
Keith
Or stick the baskets in the middle and the components on the outsides, a bit of X-shaped symmetry with the bottom row.
Looks nice regardless though.

I also have found that the addition of the Hi-Cap DR to my SN2 has taken the performance to another level, especially when higher volume listening is involved. I could never go back to a bare Nait!!!!

Agree! I tried it without Hi cap yesterday, after a one track, I reverted back to Hi cap.
Thx Keith & Dave.
Advise taken on board.

That is absolutely correct.
I tried putting my Aria next to a hicap once and it made my vinyl playback sound muffled. It was immediately obvious.

Any improvement?

Early days yet, but there is definitely a marginal improvement.

Nice system beautifully presented. I love the chest. Was the TT shelf for your RP 8 built custom to match?

Thank you.
We had a spare chopping board which I sanded and stained to match the finish of chest. The feet are on shelf are from a Rega RP6.

{Nice job on the board, looks better than the glass!}
Nice, when it's all said and done, I guess there's a direct relationship between price and quality! Aria phono stage.
"I’m in new reference turntable purchase mode. The RP8 runs US$2,995 ($3,995 with Rega Apheta2 MC cartridge). I’ll be listening closely to VPI and Clearaudio products, too. Unless I win the lottery and can purchase a Bergmann Magne Turntable. The RP8 is a fantastic piece of kit, decked out with appropriate accessories, all for a very reasonable price. Very highly recommended."

Allante93!
I have read a lot about Unitiqute and finally bought one with the idea to use it in another room - UQ2, wifi only version. So not a change but an addition. Until I solve the issue with the UQ2's speakers I will give it a listen with my current Naim system's speakers. I left the DAC and move out the rest of my set up temporary. The UQ2 is quite qute device. But I have to find a way to connect it to the WiFi somehow. The UQ2 see the net but can't log in.
The sources: Mac Mini & DAC V1, R2R and TT (waiting a cable 4-240 to 5-180 to connect a HiCap/Stageline to the UQ2).
First impressions very good. A thought crossed my mind for a shoebox system: UQ2, HiCap/Stageline, Linn Axis with possible power upgrade with NAP100.

Nothing new, just enjoying a Saturday morning spin on delightful RP3.
Splatter vinyl matching the cartridge is a nice touch.
Thanks for posting this! Never realised they had released a special edition of scene delete. A copy along with the remixes 2 and 3 are currently winging their way to me. Bloody fantastic album.

Very nice stands.

Hi Spacey -
New cables? Nice look btw. Do the front-ported speakers work better close to a wall than out? Which ProAcs are these? And (if it's new cables) what do you hear as different? I have Atlas Hyper 2 and demo'd two versions from Tara Labs, the lower priced one sounded very similar but the higher priced, larger format, separated +ve and -ve cable added clarity and bass definition. I was surprised to hear a difference (in the skeptic camp, and this was my first cable demo) but it's a costly jump... Like you, I have a SuperUniti and standmounts (Kudos Super 10). Very interested in your thoughts!

Must be confusing when watching the telly and some noise moves from left of the screen to the right, or do you get used to it ?
I thought it would be that way too, but because the sound is 'outside' the speakers it doesn't effect or is even noticeable when the TVs on.

Hi alan - The ProAc SM100s are a relatively new design. They're not very fussy about placement against the rear wall, I have them 15cm away which works perfectly in my room which is 5x4m ish.
I did have TQBs until last week. Changed them to VOVOX Vocalis (3.5m pair) Wednesday and added the new stands yesterday.
I kinda had this feeling something was a sounding a little 'EQ'd' and figured it could only the speaker cables so asked Elite Audio If they'd let me demo a few different sets/brands. The Vocalis have been a bit of a revelation, as has Atacama HMS2.1 the stands.
I know you've got a nice set of speakers there (which I've demo'd, not in my room though) I personally find the SM100s more open/fuller and they have an electrostatic sounding midrange.
What stands are you using with S10s?

As we are downsizing as kids flee the nest I may need a smaller speaker. The little 10's look worth an audition (272/XPSDR/250DR).
I'm wondering about your matching stands and any others you are aware of. Google has drawn a blank on this.
Many thanks,
Graeme

Looking good Spacey, how have you got those stands filled?

I use Custom design RS303 stands with their filler, two bags per pillar giving around 40kg per stand. Proac recommend a heavy mass stand for the Tablette, I haven't auditioned other manufacturers of stands but I guess any heavyweight stand would give great results.
Give then tabs a try Graham on the end of your kit they will sound awesome. I'm about to demo / add an Xpsdr to my kit and that will be me done hopefully so end goal is 272/Xpsdr/100
