System Pics 2017

Welcome to System Pics 2017. To get us started here is a picture of my setup: other than longer legs on the rack and some new wires, it's just the same as last year.

DrMark posted:My humble offering - always feel inadequate on this thread, but I at least have a new piece in the system so my post has more "legitimacy"!
If that's 'inadequate!, feel sympathy for me and many other Naim owners who can only dream of upgrading to your level!! Be happy with what you have and enjoy your music. Merry Christmas!

Thanks Roberto - some lovely winter sun earlier in the year. Not a bad snap from an iPhone!

Never had so much urge to just listen to entire albums or even come to that listen to albums I would never normally consider (due in part to a decent borrowed collection). Also had a good long play with speaker positioning just before the Rega arrived, much much to the positive. Brought the S400s from 18cm from the wall out to 35cm (which is as far as Im willing (ok, ok allowed!) to bring them out into the room. Massive increase in soundstage, which was already good, and also surprisingly bass quality and quantity.
'Naked' Ovators - a sight one doesn't see too often
Well a naked bottom anyway (HF unit still covered)!
BTW, very nice system and very nice photos.
Reverse topless
Do the snake and killer whale bring anything to the party sound wise?
Mine with naked BMR

haha, not naked at all actually, simply the foam removed from inside the honeycomb metal covers so I can see the speaker cones. Thanks btw.

Well I would say no but I tend to find that Paddy leaves them where he likes them and chills out when I play music he likes, thus a more silent background ;-). As you can see a bit of Debussy sends him off nicely (hes snuggled up at the end of the sofa).
Not really a picture of a system, but just before sending my '84 NAIT back home for a long overdue service, I put it together with my already serviced '88 NAIT2 for a comparative photograph.

Very nice. Love the Dynavector 10x5. What support do you have your Rega on?
its just two granite chopping boards sat on top of my rack. I would have just sat it straight on the rack as I did with the test unit but when I checked how level it was it was slightly askew. Two chopping boards meant I could strategically place blutack on the corners between them to get the top board perfectly level without having to mark the rack or the deck. Ill just check it periodically to make sure the Blutack doesnt squash too much.

Beautiful classic lines. Sometimes the chrome bumper just looks right (as it does in the case of the NAP250).

Absolutely, All CB boxes still look great and and iconic. Their Black series heirs are a little less characterful. Yesterday i shipped the 140 in Germany and i already miss it a little.

DRMARK,
My 1.5 are sitting on spikes that go through the rug and are anchored to the wooden floor. I tried granite slabs under the speakers but that cooled the thinned the sound too much for me.
Haim
Thanks Haim - The floor is a laminate - the spikes would destroy it, so I had to come up with an alternative mounting base. Perhaps with the porting system on these it may not have as much that effect, but I cannot think of any other way to do it. (But will listen to any ideas offered here.)
I was using copper pennies for the rack spikes until a kind and generous person gave me those items (an appropriate descriptive noun escapes me at this moment) on which it sits at present.

I absolutely LOVE this look for a room.
If I may ask, where on this planet is it located?

That is awesome - is it naughty or nice to covet that Nait2 as I am right now?

Thank you for the kind words - I have painstakingly put this together on the SH market when the opportunities presented. The most recent addition is the XP5 XS (non-DR) for $1,350 delivered to my door. I knew I would not be able to afford the XPS, and it forced my hand on putting a guitar up for sale, but I have enough (well, never enough) of those so I took the plunge.
This particular unit had sat unopened in its box at a Naim dealer until about 3 months ago, so even though it was pre-DR, it was basically as new and just burned in, so it should have a good lifespan before needing a service.
As is typically my experience with Naim PSU, the difference is more a case of addition by subtraction.

The eternal blessing of Bauhaus is visible in it. Maybe the designer visited Farnsworth House.

It reminds me more to Frank Frank LLoyd Wright for the volumes and that stone pattern.

Next to the telly are on the right side the Naim thing, and on the left side the Lego Architecture model of the Farnsworth House.
But the house is somewhere in the middle of FLW and Bauhaus. Maybe the architects jump in here and give me a master class!
(would love that, architecture is great)
