System Pics 2017

Welcome to System Pics 2017. To get us started here is a picture of my setup: other than longer legs on the rack and some new wires, it's just the same as last year.

Have you tried a copper connection of the same? I really doubt you'll hear a difference. Just go Gigabit. Music streaming doesn't consume a lot of bandwidth. Even if we're talking DSD files, divide the file size by the music lenght and you'll figure the bandwidth is enough for the bitrate...

Anyway, I think it looks cool... You could organize the cables better going to one side. There are some cable organizers that you put where the rack screws normally go that can make it look tidier.

A bunch of gladioli...

I would move the fireplace from between the speakers for better sound.

Nah, SL2s were designed with this layout (i.e. a typical UK lounge) in mind. I bet they're stonking.

Don't know how stonking they're, but they sure do look good!

Allante93!

PS. Never heard them!

I'm guessing Scanspeak!

To me they look to be placed a bit away from backwall, I thought they should go as close as possible

We don't hear much HH promotion currently, of his streamer setup, Bronze spikes and number of mains lead needed..as I'm sure he's busy enjoying his newly arrived TT with phonostage

I believe the Bronze spikes are up for sale on another HiFi forum!

Of course I was joking - to my regret I have never had the chance to hear a pair of SL2s; how similar or different are they from SBLs? (which I once owned).

I'm sure Nigel's setup sounds great.

I fully realised that you were joking and anyway, we like our fireplace. Much better than staring at a blank wall.

If you turn the fireplace too high the SL2 will have another colour

Glads will wilt for sure....

Since I have been on the forum. HHs fireplace has been of interest.  Always spotless and the brass looking fresh. Glad he's taken on the Gladioli to liven it up a bit.  Maybe a touch more of the feminine side is coming out. Would be nice to see some candles and pot pourri bowls.

Other than dusting, the brass had not been cleaned in the 15 years or so that we've had it. It must have a very good lacquer. Pot pourri is horrible stuff, designed to cover up smells that are better dealt with by good ventilation. I'm glad (ioli) that the fireplace is an object of interest. On the occasions it appears in a photo the question that follows is usually 'how are the speaker leads dealt with?'

when we installed a fire place like that in a previous home a length of NACA5  went down before the hearth ...

I assume its still there.

Would be tougher decision with SL!

I put Two plastic conduits under my hearth, and my dealer managed to push NACA5 through with connectors recently, so glad I did that a few years ago.

We've made a couple of changes - shorter legs and a bigger painting.

I thought you'd gone for longer columns so as to create distance between the transformers and the 272? Have you noticed any difference in performance, HH?

A related question about your racks: I see that only the top rack with the 272 has isolation spikes - I can understand not having the XPS DR on spikes but why not a 250DR?

Didn't spot the answer to MDS's question above.  I have 'HiFi Racks' mostly with 14cm separation from shelf to shelf, and use an empty shelf between the top PS (of three) and the nDAC and then the CDX2. The empty one carries the RP10 motor PS which is only on when playing vinyl so it is 'empty' for digital purposes.

Occasionally I wonder whether Fraim would have been better. I am very pleased with the full SL loom though. Any thoughts?

Hope you are ok after your investigation in the summer.

It is changed again since adding a record player, so the spikes are not currently in use, and I can't say it sounds any worse. With a Quadraspire you can only add spikes to the top level. I guess I could add an isolation platform on top of the shelves but it would look horrid and I really can't be bothered to try it out. It sounds fine as it is.

Yes, but, except - the Stageline doesn't contain (in and of itself) a power supply but receives DC from without.

The, essentially similar, Prefix is mounted within an LP12 - just under the armboard.

[@mention:71539985637494903] I think you started a thread on whether to upgrade your 202 to a 272 but then found your HiCap Dr to be the problem.

This reply by none other the Richard Dane came from another thread discussing Nova and LP12

Apparently a Superline needs space and should not be near anything like power amps or supplies. I realise you have a Stageline but the advice to everyone should be as Richard posts.

I still don't understand why you don't use the cones with the record player. They made a real (beneficial) difference to mine.

We took the opportunity to cut a 50 x 50mm channel into the concrete floor in front of the fireplace when we had our woodburner installed in July. The dust was unbelievable, but it's nice not to have trailing cables hidden under a rug.

Just as a follow up to my earlier post on this thread. Ye, it turned out to be a faulty HCDR that was my issue and why it sounded so horrible. I have now separated everything as you will see in the picture below. It all now sounds as it should and now I am looking to add streaming capability sometime in the future, but for now more than happy.

The space next to the HiCap is for my HCDR when it comes back from repair, I will then use one HC on the stage line and the other on the 202. Box on the far left is the stage line and the NAPsc is out of picture on the floor as far as the cable would allow.

OK, could someone tell me what the secret to posting an image is, please - or point me to instructions?

Thanks
