System Pics 2017

Welcome to System Pics 2017. To get us started here is a picture of my setup: other than longer legs on the rack and some new wires, it's just the same as last year.

Beautiful set Higgi You compare the superline/supercap to the Bauer-phono ? Any pic of the NBL s in your room ?

Is that the supercap relegated to the floor under the Thorens?

The SuperLine/ SuperCap sound much better thai the Bauer Phono. I was able to compare both with a friend before and it was not difficult for me to make a decision SL/ SC to buy.

Sorry for my bad english I have to work with a translation program.

As it should be, the Superline alone is more expensive than the Bauer including its PSU . And while I like my Bauer, the Superline is the better phono stage. Especially with low output cartridges in the 0,2 mV range where the extra gain provided by the Superline gives it an extra edge.

Lovely NBLs there Higgi.  They look just like the ones that we have in our family.

Did you remove the grille cloth just for the photo, or for some other reason?

Posted on: 05 November 2017 by Higgi

I like the NBL so visually better and sonically I hear no difference.

I tend to prefer the look with the grille cloths on; each to his own, I guess. I am reluctant to take them off, even to check the torque of the screws, simply because they're quite a faff to get back on, particularly when trying to get the weave aligned.

This is what i thought as well. But Willi Bauer is a genius and you never know Had a DPS for many years from the 1 model to no 3 now with a Schroeder arm. I bet the Bauer toner is pretty cool ! Have a supercap arriving soon and driving the superline from my 552 DR for now.

Beautiful NBL in cherry.  Does it work well in your place close to the wall and with furnitures close around ?

I have not had a better speaker in all these years. The tv rack is open at the sides so there are no problems.

... and here is my pair to keep them company also in cherry!

and at the other end of the speaker cables.....

I’ve seen NBLs but never had the pleasure of listening to them. They’d be too big for our room (and too much for the system) but ideal for those with the space and the electronics. Only 250 pairs were made, as I understand it.

And Michael, your NBLs are so good that they don't even need pesky wires to connect them to the electronics...

I have been lucky enough to hear Michael's NBLs and they sound fabulous!

Cheers,

Ian

I believe the figure made was actually 236 pairs but it could be plus or minus a few! Thanks Ian   I have not yet heard anything that makes me want to replace them although the Kudos 707 would certainly be contenders. Ideally I should go active but two more 500s, Snaxo, Supercap, Fraim and four more speaker leads prohibit this barring a lottery.win!!!!

Michael - how do you get the speaker wire past the door? Are you using NACA5?

Posted on: 05 November 2017 by hungryhalibut

Maybe it’s magic. Or trunking under the floor. Or it’s going through the curtain pole. Magic has the greatest appeal.

DRMARK I am using 9 meter Super Lumina cables and the carpet fitters cut a channel in the underlay for the cables to run across the door and all the way back to the kit. It makes for domestic harmony and looks very neat.

Or could they be the world's first prototype Bluetooth speakers? !!!!
