System Pics 2017

Welcome to System Pics 2017. To get us started here is a picture of my setup: other than longer legs on the rack and some new wires, it's just the same as last year.

Nicely done. Very neat indeed.

Playing around with the system (speaker) placement yesterday. When we moved into this house, roughly a century ago, there was only one place where the SBLs would fit. When those speakers morphed into the FMUs it seemed natural to plonk them in the same place.

The opportunities to meet other forum members (and listen to systems that I can only ever dream of) and hearing their sage advice started cogs to whir (very very slowly, though) and made us (MandI) start to query whether we should fire the FMUs down the length of the room rather than across. Aesthetically it isn't great; we have had to lose a chair from the room and watching television is less convenient (but in a world of SCD, GBBO etc this isn't a great loss).

What we do have is more room for a possible experiment with Fraim.

I just wish aural memory was not so very fickle. It is hard to put my/our finger on whether the sound has changed. My sense is one of improved clarity; perhaps that is just a function of getting a few feet further from the speakers.

Always good to try a free experiment Nick and I am sure your system would benefit from sitting on Fraim. Keep us posted!

Beautiful set Michael. Så lovely NBL as well. I also never had the pleasure to listen to one.

Not sure I could afford carpets and 18 m of Super Lumina - so wouldn't be an issue!

Looking good, Nick - and apparently sounding so. The Signals show always gets the juices flowing.

Lovely room, and the system looks great. The socks should have been colour co-ordinated to match those lovely vases for best effect.

DBLs sat on my DIY "Mana"-type platforms. These work remarkably well - the three sets of spikes mean the speakers rock about if you push them, so a bit counter-intuitive. All to do with isolation.

Well that is the 'Daddy' system right there and in a game of 'System' Top Trumps that is going to be hard to beat.

Well of course they are coming from different perspectives Tony's is obviously SQ before anything else and HH is coming from a more minimal aspect.

Tony's seems to an analogue first system and HH's is a more digitally based system and so of course it is down to personal preference and of course the size of your wallet.  If I had the choice and room size and money allowed I would go for Tony's but in it's price point and room size and coming from a more minimalist perspective I would imagine HH's is hard to beat.

Nick probably meant what’s on top of the rack (the 272) but you sum things up very nicely. I bet Tony’s setup sounds fantastic, but all those boxes! And all that dusting.... It’s great to have so many choices.

Strange, the box on the top shelf looks thinner than the 272. Must be the light or something.

Quite right re reading Nick's post and yes it is great to have so many choices. In context these are all fantastic sounding systems.

Me being me (again), with Nigel’s system, I would be tempted to benchmark the streamer on-board the 272 against a CD5XS and/or CDX2.2, both by digital and analog.

But, I am a tireless troubleshooter.

Great pic HH! What's really new in the room besides the socks?

Why would I do that? It would be totally pointless.
