System Pics 2017
Posted by: hungryhalibut on 17 December 2016
Welcome to System Pics 2017. To get us started here is a picture of my setup: other than longer legs on the rack and some new wires, it's just the same as last year.
In Imgur, right click on the picture & "Copy Image Address"
In your new post entry, touch the logo for Images on the top banner, this opens a popup, paste the "Image Address" in the 'Source' window & OK the popup ..... bingo

I see you have invested in the Pacman classical series of paintings to complement the Naim.
Thanks guys, what am I doing wrong? I pasted the URL into the mountain symbol? I see that the FAQ mentions a direct URL but I can't ses how to get this on an iPad from the picture and when I looked It up Imgur doesn't seem to have this function.
I guess this explains why I prefer the 555 over the NDS.
Blooming technology!
Geko, in Imgur, click on the image you wish to use. A new pop-up window will open with your image and some URL options to the right. click on the direct URL - it should highlight, then copy it. That's the URL you should then paste into the "Source" box.
Thank you Richard. Now this is my first Imgur from my iphone.
This is my latest rig, Radikalled LP12 setup by Peter in Naim active.
Cheers, Nasa.
That’s really nicely set up, and so beautifully clean. I’m impressed.
Thank you HH. The idea came after reading about brain and brawn here. Apart from getting better sound, I would say the cable dressing become easier than before.
That looks great Nasa. I like Allaes very much, but believe it or not, I've never heard them active. I'm sure they would respond really well. Do you prefer the NAP200 on the mid/bass or treble?
Lovely looking setup ACHIQUE99, I owned Allaes for around 12-13 years never heard them active but know they are a classic speaker, not a massive praise amongst the forum not sure why but I guess this has something to do with the "cult" of the SBLs.
Bet they sound as good as your system looks
Richard,
I am using NAP 200 for the high and NAP 155XS fir the low. Had tried the other way around but I prefer the current setup with better dynamics. NAP 250/DR in my wishlist to replace the 155.
Hifiman,
I went to active with NAP 152XS as an alternative instead of getting 282 in mid 2016. It was a trial and error and yes it works. I bought the Allaes used from my local dealer and I setup myself. Early this year Peter came and rescued the Allaes. Well no doubt they works well with 152, but 282 is the best for active which I got it from Peter too! However his advise is to go for SL2.
Cheers, Nasa

Yes, the middle of the road 282, is something special:
Allante93!

Curiously, after a long set of listening sessions in various configurations, your description is the exact mirror (meaning the opposite) of my impressions of the comparison between the SN2 and the NOVA.
Cult of the SBL? Whatever do you mean HiFi Man?

New boy on the block now cult of the Tab 10

DBLs sat on my DIY "Mana"-type platforms. These work remarkably well - the three sets of spikes mean the speakers rock about if you push them, so a bit counter-intuitive. All to do with isolation.
Now that is a real system - magnificent!
Your whole system DOES look (and I bet it sounds....) fantastic.
Just one question, just like my system, once everything is in place, if you want to change anything (cabling or components...) I bet it is an absolute nightmare.
I can't shift my racks once they are in position, and I really think I could have got a job as Stretch Armstrong, the way I have to bend and form my body to change cables, using dental mirrors and torches too. The only reason I wouldn't get that job is that people would think I was self-harming, with all the scratches and scrapes on my arms....
Am I right? Is recabling the bane of your life? :-)
If you search the Forum, or if Tony sees your post and uploads the picture, you’ll see what things looked like before he mastered the fine art of cable dressing.
HH, are you referring to this pic?
or dusting......
Looks perfectly normal to me......hoho. I think Tony could be a little busy at the moment with his new mate Dave.
That’s the one Richard. Couldn’t find it. And the dust! The dust! I’ve come over all faint at the thought of it.

You swine!
What you don't see is the large wooden cabinet I had made, at SWMBO's request, to cover it all up. This was open at the back & slid over everything. Because it was so difficult to get at things, a few cables when disconnected just dropped down into the tangle. All my AV kit was in there too, & I happened to be out when someone came to install a new projector. When I got home, my wife commented that the chap had one devil of a time to connect things up - she'd neglected to tell him that the cabinet just needed a couple of screws taking out & it'd slide out of the way...
I have similar problems with my new set up and a TV , but not of this magnitude. In the process of installing a double Fraim system, pictures are worth a thousand words and will be most helpful for convincing the wife when she learns of the cost! If there are no more posts from me, the plan did not work.......

If it helps Gazza, I can offer you my special series of 'How To' pamphlets, at a special discounted price. So far I have the following on offer - "How To Convince SWMBO That DBLs Are A Good Idea" (vols I & II), "How To Sneak Anonymous Black Box Upgrades Past" (first in a planned series), "How To Use Effective Quid Pro Quo Bargaining Tactics for Expensive Cabling Permissions" (more of a volume than a pamphlet), "Worst Case Strategies When Caught Out, How To Avoid Life-threatening Injuries", "Flattering As A Means To Secure Upgrade Agreements" (Advanced users only. I confess this is not one of my better works)...
That looks a bit like mine.... :-)
The problem I find is getting the rack/cupboard BACK in its correct position AFTER I've done things....
Especially if bloody spikes are involved...
Also, one of my cupboards is a converted TV cabinet with a sealed back apart from a slit down the centre...Great to hide things away but OMG when it comes to rewiring.
My wife did want us to look at a new house once, and I spotted an opportunity...there were 2 doors from the kitchen, one into the lounge, one into the hall. I thought it would be great to fix all my gear up in front of the kitchen/lounge doorway and be able to open up the door to get to the wiring...
I gathered from your magnificent system you must have had something up your sleeve to keep the wife happy. I think the second hand Fraim has passed the test, it’s the Nap300 black boxes going unnoticed which is my next plan and greatest need.
Is your mate Dave any better this time round or still not cutting the mustard?
