LP12 vibration!!!!!
Posted by: Gurbinder on 17 December 2016
I got my new LP12 home today and love it, one small problem not so bad but annoying I have a very slight needle jump when walking nearby or at a particular part of my room.
I have spoken to my dealer who as always is very helpful and they have suggested a wall bracket, I know the benefits of this but don't want to fit one to my wall, my question is will a 2 inch thick slab of granite under the complete length on my rack help????
regards

Many LP12 owners are enjoying significant benefits with the Tiger Paw Vulkan wall shelf which is a tremendous bargain. If I didn't have a dry lined wall behind my system, I'd definitely go for one.
Tramp2 was no help in my case; not wife friendly but the wall shelf is the (relatively) cheap and quick fix - problem solved.

Is any?

Listen to an LP12 that is properly set up and on a stable mount before you rule it out. It may be possible to beat an LP12, depending on your taste in presentation, but it will certainly not be cheap.

Chap has a 'trampoline 2' fitted and won't have a wallshelf. It may be that his LP12 is not set up properly but how would we forumites know?!....

Hi Gurbinder,
is the LP 12 the first turntable to sit in this particular place? If not, which table(s) have worked there before?
I had a similar issue in a former place. A late '80s LP-12 was affected, the Pink Anniversary I bought purely as a sonic upgrade, was immune to footfalls, too. But please remember, that was in my place and nearly twenty years ago.
Mulberry do you still use your PT anni?
Sorry in the limited amount of replays I have been away, the lp12 sits on a hifi racks rack with a hifi racks plinth under it.
I have emailed the dealer and am waiting for a response from them, I will request a visit and if that does not fix it I may just have to have a shelf fitted as this has been signed off by the OH.
Thanks for the help guys.
It depends on severity; i.e. what do you mean by "footfall", how close to the turntable? etc.
My LP12 occasionally has a wee jump but only for what I would call a "heavy" footfall and only within 3 or 4 feet of the rack (full fat Fraim).
My solution is no cost - I just walk lightly around that area ![]()

Do you know which way the joists run. I would guess that they run parallel to the wall that your hifi is located on and possibly away from the bearing walls supporting the joists. Can you move the kit nearer to the supporting walls or onto these. I say this because you shouldn't get as much deflection at the end of the joists.

The PT Anniversary was (and still is) a great deck. I had mine for 15+ years, it provided many hours of Music and still does at a friends place. It took the Bauer dps, itself inpired by PT and Well Tempered, to even think about anything else.
