My CDX2 is sounding sooo good today..

Sorry for the trite topic... but just wanted to share - listening to the Mojo Disc this month - 13 Sabbath Inspired Tracks - Heavy Nuggets Vol 4 and the system is rocking - great punch, timing and natural flow .. with impressive realism for heavy rock.. and this is my CDX2 Mk1 with no external power supply. These CDPs really are a masterpiece.
Ok what has changed - well I got one of those Russ Andrews superclamp mains conditioners (really effective !) - and we have the Christmas Tree up which might have strangely changed the room acoustics???? I don't know - but it sounds gorgeous - the 252 / 250 is rocking into those ATCs
Simon
Interesting about the Russ Andrews mains conditioners, Simon. I've still got a couple of those lurking about somewhere from my pre-naim days. I thought conventional wisdom was naim systems didn't react well to such things?
Mike
I have seen such statements - but got the impression that was more about serial inline conditioners - these are little in parallel conditioners - i.e. they just plug into a spare socket near your equipment - absolutely works well here - my Naim equipment has certainly benefitted - probably approaching what a dedicated spur would give you which I haven't done yet - as I have a bit of HF fuzz on the mains which I believe they suppress to a certain extent.
It must be the CDX2 day - mine sounded stunning today. If only we had such 'problems'... ![]()
I guess a CDX2 and Sabbath stuff is a match made I hell ![]()
Once my children are asleep this evening I'll be spinning some Ray LaMontagne on my CDX2.
Hey guys, did you not know that December 17th is cdx2 day.....![]()
And for everyone else, CD player day is October the 1st.

now who is bald then?
The Ipswich win 2-3 against Wigan also sounded impressive on the Naim - sadly not on the CDX2 for that one - but the NAT05 does a fair job ![]()
Simon,
How do your other sourses sound today? I have no experience with the RA device, but I once posted about the favorable effects of a Christmas tree. In my case, the tree was between the speakers, and provided acoustic diffusion which greatly reduced the local effects of early reflections to the benefit of the percieved 3D sound field from the recorded venue.
I am sure your CDX2 really rocks, but why just today?
Whatever the reasons, spin those disks and enjoy the music!

CDX2 Club Member here. Mine is my fourth, and sounding great.
Nice! Gets me hankering to hear one of Geezer Butler's trawling bass lines! If only I had a CDX2 to spin it through!
My systems always seem to sound better at Christmas time too and I too have wondered if there is a Christmas tree effect. Or maybe it's just that I relax among the decorations and my better mood lets me realize how good it is. Maybe we should leave the decorations up all year! Our spouses will love that: A no man's land of snarled NACA5 and Christmas tree bass traps!
My ears have always told me that the CD format buries the streaming format, just as vinyl does, much superior, no doubt in my mind!!!!
Too bad others don't hear it that way, and think it's a dying format just like vinyl was, well I'll tell you one thing, I would never be without a Naim CD player. They are exceptional, even my lowly CD5Si can kick some serious streaming butt!!!!
Ozzie leads a CD backlash!!
I really enjoyed my old CDX2, it really does rock. But like the rottweiler that it is, it has a split personality & can have a bite with some material & simply hates top end'y bad tweeter speakers. Since I've moved up to NDX - yes up to - I now realise the CDX2 is superb with rock, & good with soft smooth jazz, some modern, big band & trad can hide the bite & I'm now not convinced with most classical. The NDX for me does it all well, but no match for the CDX2 rock & roll
Careful what you say, Mike - if the CD Police don't get you, the tax man probably will ![]()

It all sounds good, and as I said the mains silencer and the slight furniture move for the Christmas Tree diffuser effect you describe might also have an effect, it's just I have been particularly enjoying my CDX2 today.. perhaps it's also the alignment of the stars, the moon, I don't really know, but anyway I thought I'd type a few words on it... it seems I am not alone.. ![]()
I always thought there were 2 CDX2s The bare model which was just dynamic and hugely entertaining and left you thinking hell that was good. And then combined with an XPS which did all of the above but could give you an insight to the music which made you want to listen all night.

Possibly - I guess I use my Hugo for more insightful sessions - i agree with Mike - CDX2 and much classic music doesn't tend to be an optimum match in my experience... listening to Lisa Says by Lou Reed on my bare CDX2 and it is just one helluva rendition that just gets you moving and singing along into the groove
I am very intrigued by your experience with the SuperClamp. My Naim dealer believes my intermittent transformer hum might be caused by DC offset. Did you use the "regular" SuperClamp or the "Ultra" model?
Has antbody compared the SuperClamp with the MegaClamp? I believe to remember that Loki usues the MegaClamp with great conviction. Learning about Simon's experience makes me wonder whether one needs to make all the journey up to the fairly pricey MegaClamp Ultra if the SuperClamp produces fab results as well...
Cheers,
Timo
Its the Mini Purifier UK SuperClamp I use - it was a bit of a punt too - I got a money off voucher and so I decided to use it on one of those. It does not affect mains hum or DC offset by the way..
