My CDX2 is sounding sooo good today..

Sorry for the trite topic... but just wanted to share -  listening to the Mojo Disc this month - 13 Sabbath Inspired Tracks - Heavy Nuggets Vol 4 and the system is rocking - great punch, timing and natural flow .. with impressive realism for heavy rock.. and this is my CDX2 Mk1 with no external power supply. These CDPs really are a masterpiece.

Ok what has changed - well I got one of those Russ Andrews superclamp mains conditioners (really effective !)  - and we have the Christmas Tree up which might have strangely changed the room acoustics???? I don't know - but it sounds gorgeous - the 252 / 250 is rocking into those ATCs

hi Allante93,

Yes, VAM1202 is the new mechanism while VAM1250 was the old one (what I am using). Per AV options price sheet, CD tray board has to be replaced for replacing VAM1250 with VAM1202.

However, what they didn't tell is, you don't not need to replace the whole mechanism. Just replacing the laser pick up would be fine. My pick up costs me less than USD100.

Same as you, you just need to replace the laser head. This is what I get from the same store in Taobao, but it shows it is a generic replacement.

Simon,

Just came across this post and must say it's been an interesting read not least because I also enjoy my Cdx2. I purchased mine back in 2008 when in a fit of insanity decided to completely change my system and by mistake walked in to my local HiFi shop when a Cdx2/202/200/Napsc were playing.

When the same setup was duly installed it turned out to be a little bit of a love/hate relationship for a few early months and back then a few posts if I remember correct slated the player so I really thought I had made a big mistake!

It turned out I couldn't have been more wrong, can't remember when it all clicked together but it was suddenly "so right" - and that's how it remains to this day. No disc sounds bad, a lot sound fantastic and a few are simply stunning - listing at the moment to The Sundays album Static and Silence and it's so enjoyable (the sound of the guitar that accompanies Harriet Wheeler's voice is brilliant).

If I had to put a finger on the character I like most about the player it would be it's "bubbly and alive" aspect without tipping into harshness, I like the setup so much can't really see me changing - unless it's to add a new Cd to the collection that is.

A similar experience...purchased a CDX2.2 second hand but it couldn't outperform my Sony SACD 777ES, through my Ndac with 555PS. that's until it went to Naim for a service. What came back was something that just played music, no matter how complex or poorly recorded it just made sense and engaged with the musicians so well you forgot you were listening to a Hi-Fi system.

....and it really excels on simple delicate pieces as well, still amazed at how Naim achieved such a task, especially since it's nocking on in years!
