2 Bi-amp or Not 2 Bi-amp..?! SUniti+200 Redux
Posted by: Dr_J on 17 December 2016
Following on from California Jim's experiences reported some four and a half years ago, I thought I would add my two pennoth after some six months or so with my own SU and NAP 200, before it all gets lost in the excitement of the new Uniti's.......
Having had very mixed advice and comments on the forum on the wisdom of bi-amping, the opportunity to acquire a new 200DR at a really good price, Naim support's guidance on it being the best match for bi-amping the SU and the deed was done!
And I have to agree wholeheartedly with CF's findings - a Superuniti Supercharged! I used Chord Epic Super Twin cables inherited from my old system, and the only doubt still nagging at the back of my mind is whether a change to NAC A5 would deliver any further benefits? I too found connecting the SU to the
tweeters of my PMC 20.23's and the 200 to the bass drivers led to a total transformation..... indeed more guitar twang and harmonics, pinpoint percussion within the soundstage, more attack, greater delicacy, violins and flutes soar, greater separation of instruments, more easily followed. And voice.... .fabulous acoustics and I can hear each syllable and inflection so much better. Piano, Lost Songs of St Kilda, has greater weight and more delicacy. (Taken from CJ's post for I cannot find better words to express how it is!)
Having had a weekend's return to the 70's with Messrs Oldfield, Wakeman, Hackett, Parsons and Bush, I remain convinced of the wisdom of adding the 200 to the SU.
Given this, to my mind, unmitigated success, I look forward to hearing how the next generation of Unitis take to bi/post-amping in the New Year.
Seasons Greetings to All and thanks for the advice over the year, the result of which was to shift to contentment from upgradeitis nervosa - you know who you are.
