Nap200 lean
Posted by: Richard archbold on 21 December 2016
does anyone have the opinion that the nap200 is lean in the bass dept?
Source? Speakercables? Speakers?
No Naim Poweramp is lean in the bass dept. Depends purely on the combination of components. I've seen mediocre amps having a solid bass if there was a good pre / dac attached.
If everything else is = compared with the 250DR yes but all the same it's an excellent amp.

Lindsay
Compared to what?
Such observations are purely subjective and must be based on a comparison with something else.
I never found it lean, obviously the 250DR tightens the bass and gives it more detail but it was never lean.

282..cdx2..xps2..chord signature speaker cable.. audio physic Virgo feel the bass is pretty lean very mid-range
According to my experience NAP200 has more bass with NAC202 than with NAC282. I am listening to 282 with Supercap2 now. Supercap2 is giving more power in bass and much better music compared to a third party PSU. Supercap could be an option for you too. 282+HiCap I do not know.
nope... bass to die for here.

Richard - Have you recently made changes to the system that have made you notice this more ?
You've got a system that could sound very controlled in the bass department making the system sound bass light. Have you experimented with speaker position, taking them back towards the wall somewhat to use boundary reinforcement to increase the bass. It's worth getting this right before thinking about making component changes.

Just moved home.. so I now have a room larger than before.. where was I was sitting to the side of one speaker I am directly in the middle.. speakers are 7" from the walls but further apart than before.. possibly just be the room change but I'm not liking it at the mo... might have a play about tomorrow
Ah ok - that makes sense. Trying bringing the speakers closer together too if you can. I'd certainly experiment with the speaker placement as this will make a big difference to the final result and hopefully get you back to where you were before your move. Good luck

282 + 200 is not a lean combination. It shouldn't be...
Bring the speakers closer together and a bit closer to the back wall.

Yes in my experience it is somewhat lean compared compared to the 250 and 300. The 200 is not about strong bass, it does bass perfectly well, but compared to a 250 it will sound leaner and less full bodied. If you like a lighter less full bodied sound, or you might have room acoustic issues with your speakers etc, then the 200 can be the answer.. at least in my experience.

I would tend to agree!
200 isn't lean. You have a matching problem if is lean. Speakers, cables, source. I agree Simon, if u choose hierarchical then what is pricey is better.
I shall have a play with speaker placement today.. I am looking for a 250 but will sort this first
Moved the speakers back to 3" off the wall instead of 7 huge difference bass is a lot stronger ... still to move a bit here n there but will update

My experience would actually be the exact opposite. 202/200 combo was leaning sounding then the 282/200 combo.
I'd agree, its all relative. The 202/200 combo was the leanest sounding (actually the 202/150X was probably the leanest but I've almost forgot about that combo), then the 282/200, followed by the 282/250DR, being the fullest.
