Digital Interconnect?

Posted by: Dr_J on 24 December 2016

I note from a number of threads that the (Naim) recommended interconnect for BNC connections is best terminated with BNC connectors.

That being the case, why does Naim provide a BNC to RCA adapter with each of the ((last generation) Uniti's?

John,

Naim are indeed of the opinion that the BNC connector is superior in performance to the RCA Phono, particularly for coaxial s/pdif digital connections where a 75ohm impedance should be consistent throughout.  That's why the BNC is used by Naim but for convenience sake, particularly at this level where customers could be easily put-off with being faced by a BNC socket, an adaptor is fitted to "get you going" until you upgrade to a cable with a BNC plug.

Thanks Richard! DC-1 then.

BNC is an infinitely better plug/socket than phono in every single way. I applaud naim continuing to fit bnc sockets to equipment. But there is a pragmatic reality which means an adapter in the box is a good idea. If you can avoid using the adaptor, then do so.

After years of using DC1 BNC-BNC I experimented with a comparatively cheap (£21) Canare BNC-BNC from a certain auction site.

Glad I did.

Lots of vg digital cables about and you don't need to pay 100s
