This enables the same content to be played in different rooms of the house / flat on different Naim streamers in perfect sync. There is a whole section on that in a manual.
When controlling a single streamer it is best to use either a remote control or a Naim app (iOS or Android). Single streamer shows up as a 'room'. You click on that to start interacting with your Uniti.
On Upnp mode from Naim UnitiLite I can see the Nas, the MinimServer, Twonky and Plex and able to navigate to folders of each through Naim.
On the NAS directory I can`t play wavs error "cannot read this file type" (probably some incompability of reading folder structure). On other twoo`s i can play the same wavs.
That is correct - Naim streamers will not pull files from a server, they need to be 'served' to it via a UPnP software.
So whilst you will 'see' your NAS from an app, it's not to be used.
Use any of the UPnP seevers you have installed. Why you need so many is beyond me actually...
I used many Upnp server in purpose of testing which has the most advanced GUI. You can see that twonky/minimServer have minimal design and reduced playlist capabilities. I wanted Plex like design for network media players which integrates with Naim.
i`m still searching...
Adam Zielinski posted:That was only applicable to the UK as I undestand it - 17.07.205 High Court judgement more or less outlawed personal ripping in the UK. The arguments used are 'debatable' to say the least...
I'm not so sure its 'debatable' Adam, but it is one of those laws that is unenforceable unless/until you get caught, but it might be interesting to run a test case to consider the position of Naim & others that supply ripping machines, the storage medium & the ripping software. Then there is also the added question of making back up's of legally bought & royalties paid download's.
Despite the Government's efforts to update the law to reflect how people now use CDs, www downloads & backup music files both online & locally to keep them safe, a HC decision overturned proposed changes that would make it legal to make personal copies. The UK Intellectual Property Office has now dropped attempts to change the UK law, saying it is looking at reform of European rules. But hey-ho that was 2015, brexit will fix all that, err ..... maybe ???

Why?
To control a Naim streamer you need a Naim app installed on an iOS or an Android device. You don't need swrver software interface in daily use.

What I meant by debatable is that the HMG chooses to interpret an EU directive. The purpose of directives is that they are not subject to interpretations.
But anyhow...we all know what we are writing about. Back to the OP's thread.
Adam, it was not the HMG interpretation, it was the UK High Court's deliberation, unless HMG worked to change the law within the EU framework and create a new funding mechanism or consumer tax for potentially lost copyright, then the High Court ruling has become the legal position.
As Mike says this was pre Brexit, I suspect HMG has more onerous things to worry about right now, and post Brexit these sorts of UK/EU anomalies in theory should be a lot easier to resolve.
One of HMG commissioned studies showed that the EU directives and principles here were outdated and didn't reflect how people consume copyrighted media now and was inconsistent...with smart phone and internet based technology .. HM government wanted to give the right to people to make backups and personal local/time shift copies... the so called copyright exemption.. without creating a new consumer tax, which is how some other EU countries do this. But the Musicians Union amongst others successfully challanged this using the EU directives.
