Can a DAC V-1 drive a 250 DR directly?

Posted by: ianrmack on 27 December 2016

Hello,

This is my first post here in close to 12 years. Naim and I had a great run that culminated in a 250.2/282/CDX2/SC in my main system. Kids and other distractions lead me astray.

Currently have a simple set-up: LFD NCSE mkII driving Harbeth 30.1s and have just added a Naim DAC V-1 to use with a CD transport and a MacBook Pro server.

So, my question: Can the V-1 drive a 250 DR directly? I understand the value of a pre, but would like to get there in steps. I understand the product range well and have reserached this topic yet have not seen this mentioned. The cable connections appear different in the photos, but I seek clarity.

Thanks....Ian

Yes it can. The V1 is a DAC/Pre combined.

+1, yes it can. There is a DiN out, you just need the cable that comes with the 250DR.

yes, currently doing exactly this & the sound is not too bad. My 52 pre is needing a service hence relying on this temporarily.

And it will sound very good.

If you have all digital sources, I concur, there is no reason this would not be a very nice setup.

I use a V1 as digital preamp in my second system, feeding a Naim-like DIY amp, and the result is very good indeed.

Yes it can, and very good it is too.

The pre section of the V1 is very trasparent and open in sound , if you like this combination , you are in heaven

In my setup with the  Nait  XS  as a power amplifier the sound is fantastic but sometimes is more traparent , instead with the fixed ouput the sound is less open but more funny
