Super Lumina Lengths in an active system

Can I run a shorter pair of SL cable to one speaker and then a longer pair of SL cables to the other?

Thanks Team!

PS... EDIT:  Technically I know I "can" do it...  the question is... Is there a drawback?  will the sound be degraded in anyway using two different SL cable lengths?

You should have both sides the same length, just gently fold the cable on one side if necessary.

One of the main reasons is to do with inductance and capacitance,  if you do a forum search you will find a number of threads on this subject with some excellent well explained answers.

Always stick to same lengths to left and right channels.

Yep, the perceived wisdom is to keep them the same length. But circumstances did require me to try different lengths on my second system, and I really couldn't tell the difference compared with same-length cabling. I did  read the other day that with a 10M (30') length discrepancy the difference was 33 nanoseconds, the same difference as having one speaker less than a human hair's thickness away from the other one. If you can hear this then you're a better man than me!

Indeed, there'll be a difference in the inductance and resistance, but it'll likewise be insignificant , and inaudible. Are you suggesting this discrepancy is likely to damage Naim amplifiers?

Well, first off, Merry Christmas!

2nd and most importantly, key words.

SL Speaker Cable

 552 Active System

Common sense

Resale value, best to keep the lengths equal, at least in pairs.

""Apart from Naim's own upgrade cable - Super Lumina - alternative speaker cables cannot be  recommended by Naim, however, should you still wish to try them then you should ensure that the cable is low capacitance and of moderate inductance.  High capacitance cables are to be avoided at all costs and may result in damage to your amplifier.

NACA5 specifications are as follows:

Capacitance:         16pF per metre

Resistance:          9 milliohms per metre

Inductance:          1uH per metre

Minimum length:     3.5 metres per channel

Maximum length:    20 metres per channel (note that longer lengths can be used up to around 25 m but then some small signal loss must be expected)"

We can eliminate the Maximum length, common sense.

Optimal performance 5-10 m.

Vs

Minimum length 3.5 m

If I was fortunate enough to own an Active 552 System, I would lean towards optimal performance @ 4 m, and dare anyone to hear the difference between 4 & 5 meters.

However, resale value of SL Speaker Cable would demand equal lengths.
