John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band (1970). On remastered/remixed CD from 2000. John's liberation from The Beatles. Unbridled music spoken from the gut. Simple and brilliant.

Prompted by Mr Marshall's posts of yesterday.  CD rip.

I remember vividly hearing "Cherry Oh Baby" thumping out from enormous ceiling mounted Bose speakers in a Newcastle Virgin store  "back in the day" and initially not believing it could be a British reggae band as it had such a deep bass and drum hit.  How wrong I was ...

Similarly, when working in London in the late 70's, I used to frequent a night club south of the River, where ska and reggae was the music of choice.

It wasn't until The Beat appeared on TOTP, doing "Mirror in the Bathroom", that the penny dropped, and that this was a home grown band, whose album was featured, in it's entirety, each week.

Rush to record shop, buy immediately ..........and, know what? ............it STILL sounds great!

Oh well, why not?

The Beat - I Just Can't Stop It .............. erm ..................LOUD!
