2017 has arrived today, so time to start this thread afresh.

Actually, there's just one track, but it took me a morning of detective work to find it!
Back in 2006 Stuart Maconie saw this singer at SXSW and played a track on Freak Zone that I loved. Couldn't get the album or even hear what it sounded like, and sort of forgot it. Until this morning when it popped into my head...except I couldn't remember the title, the singer, or the album. Hence a morning of frantic Googling based on the fact that I knew it was a famous Okinawan folk song and that it had the word "Hana" in it.
Anyway, the fruits of my labour: Kui Jin nu Hana (and no, I have no idea what she's singing about, but it's very simple, accompanied by just a shamisen, and completely captivating)
Thanks Gary, very enjoyable and amazingly she has a few tracks available on Tidal where I listened to it. If I'd have had several drams and was only half listening to it in say a club or event up here it could almost be taken for Gaelic folk music from one of the Western aisles...

His version of Summertime is the most 'Funky' I have ever heard.
This is a very special solo by the younger Harris from 1993 which never leaves my coffee table:

Despite my Windows 10 woes that I've been bleating on about elsewhere on the forum, currently streaming Rumours Supler Deluxe Edition from Qobuz. The live tracks included I am finding particularly enjoyable right now. Will hear what all the other demos, and rough cuts are like in due course, but so far so good.
An album i really didn't think i'd like but it's a grower. Picked up Q magazine at the airport last year and flicking through the mag on the plane, i read through the list of albums you must own (or something like that). Intrigued by the article on the recording of this album i ordered it when i got home.
The first play was a real WTF moment (not in a good way) and it's got played very occasionally since. I found myself humming ' Only Shallow' to myself this morning and thought it was time to give this a proper play...

It's not often that I listen to these boys nowadays. I didn't realise, until checking some discogs notes, that this was released two years after they had disbanded!
"Released on June 14, 1972, two years after the duo had disbanded. It's a mix of original studio recordings and four previously unreleased live recordings. The record's minimalist packaging does not specifically date the latter; however, the live versions of "For Emily, Whenever I May Find Her" and "Kathy's Song" included on "Greatest Hits" were also included on the 2008 album "Live 1969." The liner notes to "Live 1969" state that these two songs were both recorded at a November 1969 concert in St. Louis, Missouri. According to the liner notes from Collected Works, however, the version of "Kathy's Song" was taken from a 1968 concert in Vermont." - Discogs

We can't do anything about the gloomy cold damp British soggy wet weather out there but indoors one can feel the sonic glow of warmth from perhaps an over serious looking Ramsey behind those cool Ray Bans. Highly recommended album for sheer get down feel good grooviness : )

Not a blues album
This is the only CD I have of Les McCann. Besides this CD I don't know anything about Les McCann or his other music. Maybe this is his best or worst recording ever. However, I really enjoy it. Just like Gene Harris this is jazz with funk / soul elements. Only in a total different style than Gene Harris does.
This afternoon with my girlfriend a kind on NAT King Cole afternoon...
The last one of the afternoon...
Now into more modern jazz...
