LP - Columbia 1974 : )
Ramsey Lewis - keyboards, ARP and Moog
Cleveland Eaton - bass, electric bass
Morris Jennings - drums, percussion
James L. Herson - Moog (tracks 2, 6 & 8 )
Calvin Barnes - percussion (tracks 4 & 5)
Carl Mars - drums
Ron Capone - drums (track 3)
Steve Cropper - guitar (tracks 1, 3, 7 & 9)Recorded at Trans Maximus Inc. Recording Studios, Memphis and CBS Recording Studios, Chicago 1974
We can't do anything about the gloomy cold damp British soggy wet weather out there but indoors one can feel the sonic glow of warmth from perhaps an over serious looking Ramsey behind those cool Ray Bans. Highly recommended album for sheer get down feel good grooviness : )
Debs
Debs,
I have a Lewisless life, never got a chance to listen to his music. Any suggestions for a try-out album? I remember that Kuma was very high on him as well.
Can't be classed as a straight blues album but has an excellent mix of Gospel, Hillbilly, Blues tunes.
Next up and last for today.

Wiki tells me this was the last record of the three that comprise his 'Classic phase', the other two having had mentions here recently. Who am I to argue?!
Sides 1 and 4 are on one record, 2 and 3 on the other. Always baffled me.

Ah. The good old days
I think the logic was back in the day they actually made turntables with a long spindle. You could multiple albums on the spindle, when one was done the next would drop.
So if playing SITKOL, side one plays, then side 2, then you simply flip them over, put back on spindle, side three drops, then four

Gregu, thank you!

Haim, I'm no aficionado and I'm also Ramseyless except for this Greatest Hits comp.
Stand out for me is track1: The In-Crowd.

Hi Haim,
I won't pretend to be an expert on Ramsey Lewis albums, he's released well over 70 albums and most i've not heard [yet].
A jazz + eclectic performer, 1970s jazz-funk is especially fun listening imho.
However, the album many people rave about is The In Crowd [1965] one on my wish list, it's probably very good too, i say that with some conviction even tho i've not listened to it personally because every Ramsey Lewis album i have is fabulous enjoyment imo.
I'd recommend you try his Trios first, i'd bet you'd love Time Flies which includes a few tracks of easy on the ear classical , and being a fairly recent release [2004] the sonic Q is top drawer. It only seems to be available in digital CD or download, but don't let that put you off.
These are darn good purchases for the price : )
This is jolly nice too, just putting my vinyl copy on the LP12 now...
Ramsey Lewis - piano
El Dee Young - bass
Issac "Red" Holt - drums
Album released 1960

Debs,
Thanks a lot, much appreciated.
Benny Golson - Gettin' With It. CD Rip - December 1959.
Vinyl LP of Minneapolis' finest circa the mid 19080s.
Sounds quite good. Was recommended in my classical magazine, phono forum..

Something to cheer up a grey and rather cold, dank February morning.
Following suit to listen to Ramsey Lewis. So far not that impressed. The first try I had was an album with a terrible noise, just a transfer from a bad base. Now trying this....., I might stay Lewisless...
So now trying the earlier recommendation on this forum, let's see what it bings...., starts at least better...
