What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol. XIII)

2017 has arrived today, so time to start this thread afresh.
Last year's thread can be found here;

He sang live on Sunday Brunch, I thought he was superb to be honest and intend having a listen to the album this week
Pollini is member of a very select group of musicians I've stopped commenting on to avoid accusations of preferential treatment. This record in no way changes that.

This interesting experiment and record...
Sounds quite good - will most probably get it from Qobuz now...
1st run, entertaining...
Charlie Haden / Kenny Barron. Night and the City - CD rip. An old fave, a track came on in the car earlier, giving it a run now.

Unsure what to play, this was just a grab from the virtual library and a good one....
CD - enja records 1995 : )
Ron Blake – Tenor Saxophone
Dwayne Burno – Bass
Marc Cary – Piano
Charlene Fitzpatrick – Vocals
Roy Hargrove – Trumpet
Yarborough Charles Laws – Flute
Dion Parson – Drums
Recored NYC, Jan 1994
"Marc Cary had worked as a sideman for the likes of Roy Hargrove, Betty Carter and Art Taylor by the time he released his debut album in 1995. A striking document, it demonstrated Cary’s talents as a songwriter and bandleader with grooving originals like “The Vibe” and “So Gracefully.” The record featured an all-star cast including Hargrove, saxophonist Ron Blake and bassist Dwayne Burno.
It cemented Cary’s reputation as a young star on the rise, and marked the beginning of a remarkably fertile period: Cary would release six albums by the end of the 1990s."
Via 272/250DR/S400 wav - glorious!

Two of my friends say it's not very good, and two other friends say it's brilliant; one of which said the best NY album so far!
I've not listened to it yet.
My LP copy arrived today so later i'll be finding out which friends to agree with : )

A special request which of course you are perfectly at liberty to decline.
I have been fascinated watching your 'review of the blues' but there is a huge mass of material to try to sample here and I am not sure where to start. 'The Blues' is also a wide and extremely varied genre. But I wondered at the end of your blues binge, if you might highlight some of the....err.....highlights (artists/albums) for you. I realise this is like asking you if you prefer apples, oranges or pears but it would give us who want to learn more about the blues a starting point.
I am sure that apart from me there are a number of members who could give you some recommendations.
Are there any blues artists you have heard you like, as that could be a starting point?
Yes, I'm possibly being a bit lazy here and I do realise it is going to take some effort on my part. I might take up HH's suggestion, but what will confuse me is a deluge of suggestions which I would anticipate with so many blues fans on here.
I'll start by listening to a few suggested on here that look interesting and are available on Tidal for ease of access and take it from there.
Cheers

This fantastic 2011 CD..
just finished:
Son Volt - "Honky Tonk" (2013)
Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit - "Live From Alabama" (2012)
I discovered the Milk Carton Kids about two years ago. I was impressed from the start. Just two guys, each one with a guitar and some great (close harmony) singing. Great folk music.

One of Pendragon's finest albums and possibly my favourite of theirs, wonderful prog rock.
Jay Farrar and Ben Gibbard - "One Fast Move Or I'm Gone: Music From Kerouac's Big Sur" (2009)
Dave Matthews Band - "The Gorge" disc 1 & 2 (2004)
Ernestine Anderson - Blues, Dues & Love News. Live at B.B. 's . CD rip, nice & smooth.
I've played this twice today. I don't understand why it's taken me so long to really appreciate this band. Glad I made the effort though.
