2017 has arrived today, so time to start this thread afresh.

Vinyl - Remastered 45 RPM
Why: was released exactly 40 years ago today !!!
GraemeH posted:Enjoying this with my daughter who has good taste! Reminiscing how my best mate and I had Robert & Jimmy come in to the French House in Soho and stand right beside us enjoying a chat & a pint. A polite nod in acknowledgement is all we did...until we got outside and shared a massive OMFG over several more pints!

I'm seriously impressed, Graeme!
Chores done and it's now raining so i've got a good excuse to be inside with a beer.
Starting with this -
Elbow - Build A Rocket Boys
King Crimson - Islands. On vinyl. Probably my least favourite KC album but it has its' moments.

Broken Hopes by Albion

First play of another of Slim68's modern excellent prog-rock recommendations.
RUSH - Hemispheres. Seemed appropriate.
Tuck & Patti.
Patti is a very good singer. Tuck is an outstanding guitar player. The way he accompanies Patti is amazing. He transform his guitar in a complete rhythm section. They complement each other very well.

Not his best and I didn't particularly enjoy it live on tour last year but the sound of that voice makes up for my misgivings.
Now some relaxing jazz.

If you like his voice, then I can recommend Kevin Mahogany.

Jeroen.

Excellent metal tinged heavy prog rock, another good find championed here by Slim68.
Hi Steve, Credit goes to Bert for this one, but yes a great recommendation.
Heaven 17, Not For Public Broadcast, FLAC Download.
Taking me back to my younger years as a New Romantic!!
David Bowie: Hunky Dory (remastered 24/192). A little 'Dave' is always a good thing

No particular reason other than I haven't listened to him in quite a while, its different to what I've been playing recently and its a fine album.

I love this album beyond reason. I was visiting London in the winter of 71, I knew it was due out any moment, so I did a tour of all the record stores I found, asking for it. I was accompanied by a girl who looked more bored at every block. In the end, after I got 'Sorry, it's been delayed indefinitely' as an answer by the Nth guy in a small dusty shop, he suddenly took a copy from under the counter and gave it to me.
I was so happy I could have flown back to Torino sitting on the wings, face in the air, total fulfilment.

(Of it, Fripp's solo in The sailor's tale was, and perhaps is, my favourite Crimson moment ever.)
These days:
Chris_M made me know it, and love it. It sounds like it was made by a guy inside a piano factory's carpentry, using what he had found, while building an ancient clock. It has a soothing, evocative quality I know not of any other CD. It is full of noises, but how humanised and musically integrated..
Debut album for this band in 2013 .. reminiscent of Allmann Bros/Lynyrd Skynyrd but with a great sax player .. percussionist Jimmy Carpenter is a star on the album .. well worth a listen
This is a really interesting soundtrack album. Its from a1981 French thriller film directed by Jean-Jacques Beineix. Its one of those amazing films that transcends time. Quirky? Yep. Beautiful? Yep. Strange and surreal? Yep. Touching and haunting? You bet. A key part of the films success is its wonderful soundtrack. Highly recommended and worth seeking out.
England - Garden Shed
If one were to draw a Venn diagram in 1977 of Gentle Giant, Genesis and Yes, I suspect this would sit somewhere in the middle. Their only contemporary album, largely ignored in the teeth of Punk, it's nevertheless a real treat. Largely keyboard driven and centred around two long tracks, it deserves more recognition.
Here's one of those long tracks

saw James Arthur as a support act at the south bank quite a few years back - if my memory serves me right he was being championed by Peter Gabriel .....so another link to his first album...40 years ago?!?
