What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol. XIII)

2017 has arrived today, so time to start this thread afresh.
Last year's thread can be found here;

Llyod Jones - "Doin' What It Takes" (2015) local bluesman
now playing:
Robert Cray - "Bad Influence" (1983)
Nice to see you back on the forum Jeff as I noticed you hadn't posted in awhile. Will have to investigate Lloyd Jones as he isn't a name I'm familiar with.
Hi Ewen, have spent a few days in the hospital with pneumonia and a rather ridiculous antibiotic of which I have had about 8 side effects. Finally off that Friday and on a slow road to recovery. Thank you for the interest and hope you and the good lady are fine. best regards, Jeff A (and Heidi)
Nice to hear you are on the road to recovery and please give my best wishes to Heidi.
This Heat's "posthumous" third album, Repeat, on 1993 CD. After last night's gig.
Joy Williams - Venus Acoustic
(2016) CD
First listen. Joy Williams is formerly of The Civil Wars. This includes songs (but not all) from 2015 release 'Venus.'
I like Joy's voice and interested to hear solo recording. Maybe it was the time of day listening, but this album left no impression on me other than 'meh.' It's delicate and sparse nature may not have been what I needed to hear.
Will have to try it again later, maybe with headphones to get more into the album.
Now: Rhiannon Giddens Freedom Highway
(2017) CD
First listen. Opposite reaction, enjoying this album and more involving.

A few weeks to go until Silver Eye is released so I'm going to have a bit of a 'Frapp in anticipation.
A cheeky glass of Laphroaig and these two albums. Very immersive
Talk Talk - Spirit Of Eden
Pink Floyd - DSOTM

A very pleasant peaty mixture.
More Emily Remler. This one released posthumously after her untimely death in 1990. This is very different to her first five solo albums, perhaps influenced by Pat Metheny, but certainly less bebop.
Typical Waters' intensity and a soundstage that always impresses.
I tend not to post on this thread because inevitably I'm sat here on the settee with my iPad & I've never figured out how to post album cover photos with it. So, currently listening to - River City People, Say Something Good. Superlative pop from one of the most sadly neglected bands on the Planet. Followed by Kind Of Blue on mono vinyl rip, Procol Harum Live At The Union Chapel (ripped from the BluRay) , then The Rolling Stones Live At The Max, another BluRay rip. All played at insanely loud volumes.

Still A 'Frapping and going from her last to her first.

It's been flagged quite often but it really is so well recorded and has great SQ.

It is indeed, Steve. An album that has been recorded and mastered with great care. I wouldn't expect anything less of Mr Waters.
Scott Hamilton 'After hours' with Tommy Flanagan on piano.
A good example of a great CD release on the Concord Lable.
Ive never seen this recommended by anyone else, but I really like it.
LP - Rhino 2015 reissue on white vinyl : )
Arthur Lee - lead vocals, guitar
Bryan MacLean - rhythm guitar, background vocals (lead vocals on "Old Man" and co-lead vocals on "Alone Again Or")
Johnny Echols - lead guitar
Ken Forss - bass guitar
Michael Stuart - drums, percussion

This fab album becomes 50 years old this year : )
Debs
More first listens. Both are very enjoyable. I have enjoyed going through the last month or so and reading all the blues posts here. Very educational and just great music.
Magic Sam Blues Band - West Side Soul
(2011) CD Recorded July 12 and Oct 25, 1967.
Now: Otis Spann IS The Blues
(1989) CD originally released 1960.
Post extra birthday celebrations, family took me (us) to a local Argentinean Steak house, a smooth and relaxing album by a great and underrated guitarist:-
Paolo Nutini - Caustic Love.
A gentle start to Sunday evening with some Jock funk.
Original vinyl
Why? Something to relax to after finishing the second day of a model railway exhibition.
steve
Scott Hamilton again, but now with Gene Harris.

My brother-in-law Andrea would have, if he was on this forum. He has it and loves it. Fine disc.
