Rediscovering Way Out West in 24/192, downloaded this time from Qobuz and not from HDtracks.

Sonny Rollins Way Out West

Rollins' play on the left side is just like his sound and take, impeccable. The response given on the right by these West-Coasters of Brown and Manne to the New-Yorker allows for a quite a wonderful groove. Listen to that dance on the tune of the same title. Delicious! :tarĂ©1:

Jerry Joseph & The Jackmormons

The Fog Of War live video originally posted by Jeff Anderson (from the album By The Time Your Rocket Gets To Mars), that I circle back to because it's a great song but also because it has one of my all-time favourite guitar solos in it. Not just technically superb (it's no fretwank) it's an example of a man letting his spirit flow through his guitar strings.

For those new to it, trust me (and Jeff) that it won't be 20 minutes of your life wasted

One of the two works for which composer Gavin Bryars is best known (the other being "Jesus' Blood Never Failed Me Yet"), his epochal "The Sinking of the Titanic" had been recorded three times in the 25 years since its creation. The composition is an attempt to metaphorically replicate the disaster of 1912 utilizing various elements associated with it, including the songs and hymns reported played on board that evening both before the iceberg was struck and as the ship was sinking. It's structured as an "open" piece, in that material subsequently uncovered may be added and information that becomes discredited may be discarded. The overall mood is, befittingly, sub-aqueous with long sustained tones on the strings, bass clarinet, and horn written to give the impression of sounds traveling great distances beneath the sea. This album was recorded in a large, abandoned water tower that adds enormously to its reverberative nature. (AllMusic)

Fascinating and highly recommended:

Ancient thick as a plate Atlantic vinyl

Why? One of my favourite jazz albums. Also one of the only good things the weasel who stole my second wife did was to introduce me to this and Miles KOB.

Paul Rodgers - The Royal Sessions.

Great album of soul covers, recorded in Memphis with a solid band behind him.

Nice to see you back on the forum Jeff as I noticed you hadn't posted in awhile. Will have to investigate Lloyd Jones as he isn't a name I'm familiar with.

Hi Ewen, have spent a few days in the hospital with pneumonia and a rather ridiculous antibiotic of which I have had about 8 side effects.  Finally off that Friday and on a slow road to recovery.  Thank you for the interest and hope you and the good lady are fine.  best regards, Jeff A (and Heidi)

Get well soon Jeff.

A truly superb rendition of the Goyescas and other works by Granados. Most of these works are tuneful, small in scope and amplitude and somewhat melancholic in mood. On FLAC disc.

Cheers

Terry Reid - Seed of Memory.

Smashing album from one of UK's sadly under appreciated soul voices.

No problem Dave. Any time you need a blues recommendation, just come to to me. I am now officially the newest, and most incompetent blues aficionado on the forum.

Seriously, having had a look around on Tidal inspired by so many recommendations, I realise I haven't even scratched the surface of this wonderful genre that has a number of distinct categories within it which often merge or cross over. This thread has been a wonderful introduction to the blues and I already have some favourite artists, Otis Spann being one.

It makes you realise that we can so often spend too much time and money on improving our systems at the expense of time listening to and exploring music which surely is the point of having a decent system in the first place. Weird.

Not a fan of the man but i do like (most of) his music. This is a fine album and his duet with Becky Unthank on 'So to speak' is rather beautiful.

I tend not to post on this thread because inevitably I'm sat here on the settee with my iPad & I've never figured out how to post album cover photos with it. So, currently listening to - River City People, Say Something Good. Superlative pop from one of the most sadly neglected  bands on the Planet. Followed by Kind Of Blue on mono vinyl rip, Procol Harum Live At The Union Chapel (ripped from the BluRay) , then The Rolling Stones Live At The Max, another BluRay rip. All played at insanely loud volumes.

The cover art is easy. Just get an account with Photobucket or one of the similar services. Make a screenshot, upload and paste the link into the Naim post...
