What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol. XIII)

2017 has arrived today, so time to start this thread afresh.
Last year's thread can be found here;
On CD:-
Jean Luc Ponty - The Gift Of Time
Sonny Boy Williamson & The Yardbirds.
More great boogie, and a terrific live album.
Coldplay - "Ghost Stories" (2014)
Mono LP, from the rather splendid Rolling Stones In Mono box:
Prompted by Kevin-W and others playing it. An album that for me still carries the magic that I heard when it was first released. My favourite Led Zep album. I wore out my original vinyl copy!

How you rate this in Dream Theater back catalogue? I don't have this yet and I have read some not so favorable reviews.
It's a kind of mellow album of dream theater, good music though. It's not as good as the best albums, but it is definitely also not a bad album. So in the overall catalogue I would recommend this one.
Despite being very capable of producing fireworks Hamelin deploys his gifts more in the maintenance of total control over the music -- not an easy thing with the Piano Sonata in B minor, it must be said -- than in sheer power. Nevertheless, this recording is full of breathtaking technical display, and it's undoubtedly true that few others have the chops to make the sonata sound like this at all.

Thanks, I think I'll try it then.
Haven't heard this for some time, another great concept album of these progressive rockers from Hamburg Germany. It doesn't get to the greatness of their Magnus Opus, Posthumous Silence, but it's still a good album by many standards....
Nice interaction between a piano player and a guitar player.
Marcus Miller - Silver Rain.
This'll get yer woofers a flappin.

When I doubt nowadays about something, I miss use Tidal to find out if it's my thing. Tidal doesn't reach the quality of my Melco driven listening, but it's good enough to determine if I like an album enough to buy it.
Well I've got a taste for Led Zep now. This is my second favourite.

I bet that sounds great. I only have the 68' FFSS pressing. Seriously considering investing on this box set.

I got it for £295 Tony, which is pretty good value for 16LPs - and probably less than you'd pay for a mint mono first pressing of just one of these LPs. And espite being sourced digitally (from DSD) they do sound pretty good...
The shins...wincing the night away
On vinyl ...Phantom limb ..What a song !!
Ralph Towner: Anthem
Played on classic and 12-string guitars, recorded in 2000 for ECM.

I am not so into the Stones that I need it....., but on Qobuz I only would have to pay 67 euros for 24/192 version. So quite different from a physical version...... people will of course argue that it will never sound as good as on black gold....

My issue is that I do enjoy not just the sound of the black stuff but also the intimacy that it provides. You cannot get that out of thin air from digital downloads. But that's just me.
Cara Dillon - Cara Dillon.
Chillin' to Ms Dillon.
