What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol. XIII)

2017 has arrived today, so time to start this thread afresh.
Last year's thread can be found here;
EJS postedcan't stand #1 (with it's children's song turned funeral march) and #8.
Really?
I love the 1st!
I see why it flopped at the premier tho.
Edwin Fischer (1886-1960) was a Swiss classical pianist and conductor. He is regarded as one of the great interpreters of Bach and Mozart of the twentieth century.
Momo Kodama (piano): Point and Line
Claude Debussy (1862-1918): Etudes pour piano L 136 (1915)
Toshio Hosokawa (*1955): Etudes I - VI for piano (2011-13)
Here I am feeling bad for what I'm about to say so I'll start with the good. The playing is fabulous and the recording of course is of standard ECM New Series quality. I also like Debussy - a lot.
Momo Kodama was quite correct when right from the top suggested, "Listeners are bound to ask why the Etudes of Claude Debussy and Toshio Hosokawa are presented here in alternation." This listener understands that she has every right to do this whether it annoys me or not. Yes, it bugs me as I want to listen only to Debussy in sequence at least and not have to be disturbed by flipping through the program to find only the Debussy.
The connection for Kodama to the Hosokawa Etudes is that four of the six are dedicated to her. The 2nd Etude is dedicated to Yu Kosuge and the first one is dedicated to Kei Ito.

Playing the first half of this one hour and forty minute recording.
Will see her live at the end of the season...
Starting this morning with Handel.
The Dave Brubeck quartet with Paul Desmond on Sax. One of his classic albums imo.

The Moody Blues - "Days If Future Passed" (1967) I am in one of those, uh, uh........ moods.
Great set on the Bavarian Radio label (BR-Klassik). Includes some “related” 21st century compositions written for Jansons and the BRSO band. All live recordings…highly recommended!
I first heard Schubert's string quartet no. 14 a couple of weeks ago, when we saw the Chiaroscuro Quartet in Southampton. I was rather taken with it, so 'bought the album' as they say. The Chiaroscuro have not recorded it, so I got the Takács version. It's more restrained than the very lively Chiaroscuro but then again it's also on the stereo rather than in the concert hall, so comparisons are slightly pointless perhaps.
The Moody Blues - "In Search Of The Lost Chord" (1968) the mood continues.
Track. 9. Burn-in and demagnetisation
feeling a bit poorly of late. Ears shot from too much sneezing and coughing. Listening to this at volume has seemed to clear my sinuses.
Compilation mix up of cool grooves. Including the very excellent: Dream Machine. From Mark Farina.
The second Brubeck album for me today.
