What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol. XIII)

2017 has arrived today, so time to start this thread afresh.
Last year's thread can be found here;
On CD:- from the mono box set.
On this his second album from 1971 Al Green and producer Willie Mitchell established their classic sound. Alternating between Sam Cooke's croon and Otis Redding's shout, Al develops his own distinctive style, and Gets Next to You only touches the surface of its depth. Although the album is filled with wonderful moments, few are as astonishing as his reinterpretation of the Temptations' "I Can't Get Next to You," .

A recent rip to start off this late afternoon.
Fourplay's first album, and it's my favorite of theirs.

The Cairo Gangs latest.
Ewen, what do you make of this? I really enjoyed their 2012 release 'The Corner Man ' so very interested in what you think.
Regards Graham.
My usual unpredictable listening :-
Dexter Gordon - new download, Maria Callas - Cavaleris Rusticana !, Gregory Porter - new CD rip 1st listen - good !, Love the Diana Krall - A Night In Paris, Chet Baker - Big fan - and really enjoy some of his later work, variable as it is !? I think the combination of Chet Baker (t), Philip Catherine (g), Jean Louis Rasinfosse (b) is made in heaven !!!
ALERT ! - Anybody wishing to buy Diana Krall CDs - have a look on "the long river" site - from 0.01 + postage !!!!!

Correct me if I am wrong Graham but from memory The Corner Man was a low key effort lots of slow songs. This starts off with a couple of numbers that almost wouldn't be out of place on a Byrds album. and then it bursts into life with Thats When it is Over.
There is a touch of Arthur Lee's Love on one of the trax and the last track I feel could be a Tom Petty track.
Overall it is a solid album but not one I would play that often

In anticipation of her new release on Friday, her excellent debut album.
Van Morrison - Too Long in Excile
The master in fine form.
Very good recording n traditional manner...., only 34 euros for the whole collection of Haydn - months ago on Qobuz...
On ancient s/h Verve vinyl:
Why? Felt like something different, then I remembered this.

For no particular reason other than this is one of my favourite soundtracks (and films).
By accident I didn't have this version of the triple concerto before. Now running it for the first time...
The Avett Brothers: I and Love and You. CD rip.
A bit too much jazz rock in my ears...., I liked him more natural.....
Then tried out this one. Always difficult to be in between. But people who are into more genres might like this cross over...

I came to post that I was listening to this same recording, I'm just reaching the end of the Largo. A 24/96 WAV download from Qobuz in their Slava special offer. I think you flagged the deal in the offers thread, thanks Bert. I love the triple, and I'm enjoying this performance, obviously technically skilled playing, but I'm also appreciating the interpretation. Sound quality very good on HDX.
Ending the evening with this. It's a kind of combo between electronic music and post rock. Quite interesting while no something to listen for hours as it might get too boring...
The great Irish folk singer Christy Moore 16/44 WAV CD rip, singing covers of Richard Thompson, Joni Mitchell and Bob Dylan among others. Christy is a major figure in Irish folk, with massive impact through the electric bands Planxty and Moving Hearts, as well as his own solo canon. Why this album? Some fine songs, Christy and the band in great form, overall an uplifting album, despite the righteous anger of quite a few numbers. (I do find Morrissey's America I live you pretty clunky, but the rest of the album makes up for it.)
I have just noticed that there is a CD copy on Amazon for £282, wow!
A tribute to Brian Pern on BBC 4 right now. Very well done and some proper big names with their tributes...
